What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. set any multimedia key as a shortcut
2. try to use it
3. nothing happens What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Clementine should react when a shortcut is pressed. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? clementine 1.0.1
kde 4.8.2
kubuntu 12.04 Please provide any additional information below. It used to work fine with kubuntu 11.10.
What's weird is it works fine wth amarok global shotcuts, but nothing happens with clementine.
Also i can define the shortcut in clementine, meaning the key seems recognized, but when i use it nothing happens.

It's highly annoying i had to go back to amarok.

Gnome's shortcuts keys work for me however if configured so in Clementine. I could get by with that setting but I like to be able to rate songs with a WIN+digit shortcut and it is not possible to set up in Gnome.

Have same problem. Kubuntu 12.04, Clementine 1.0.1

Same problem, Debian Wheezy 64 bits, clementine 1.0.1+dfsg-2.

I could, as a workaround, map some actions to win+a (i use it as play pause for now), etc… where they are working.

The same for me, Kubuntu 12.04, Clementine 1.0.1. Recognizes media keys while configuring shortcuts, but they don't work.

Have the very same issue. Global keys music track forward/backward, play, stop do not work in Clementine 1.0.1, but work in Amarok.

Dell Inspiron 1525n, Linux Netrunner 4.2 (spin off from Kubuntu 12.04) with KDE 4.8 32-bit. Kernel 3.2.0-25-generic-pae

Any non Debian-based distros experiencing this? Maybe it's a Kubuntu/Debian problem.

Possible work-around. In KDE, go to System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures -> Custom Shortcuts.

In the Custom Shortcuts panel, create a new group for music. Create a new shortcut by right clicking on your new group and choosing New -> Global Shortcut -> Command/URL. In the Trigger tab, enter your key binding for play/pause. In the Actoin tab, type "clementine -t". And so on.

  • "clementine -t" for pause/play.
  • "clementine -s" for stop.
  • "clementine -f" for next.
  • "clementine -r" for previous.

It's not ideal, because if there are other apps that want to use the multimedia keys, it doesn't differentiate which app is running. But it gets the job done.

same on Mint Maya KDE,
where uname says
3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:39:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and Clementine 1.0.1

as asked by kkin.. it was working on my Mandriva 2011 about two weeks ago, I will check out if it still does with latest updates and post the versions later

and, kkin.. thanks for the tip with the workaround, its working for me, as I was used to it! =) cheers!

Thanks kkinder for your workaround - works :-)

Guys from Xubunutu Geek blog say it works okay in the developmental branch of Clementine. I've tested on 32-bit Netrunner 4.2 (Kubuntu 12.04 spin-off), Dell Inspiron 1525 and works for me. http://xubuntugeek.blogspot.com/2012/05/fix-multimedia-keys-clementine-and.html To install go start the terminal and run:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine-dev -y
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install clementine

On Debian Jessie KDE with Clementine 1.2 problem still exists. MM keyboards not working. I can set only normal shortcuts.
Checked and there is no conflict with KDE shortcuts settings.
Its really strange because in clementine settings i can use MMkey to set shortcut. It looks like there is no action assigned, but im sure it is.
