Android is supposed to be a phone with google customers in mind. We can't use wave because we don't have a browser that supports it. Does anyone else see the disconnect here?

Yea Tmiles: After all my digging around, it is a major bummer to hit this dead end at 100 MPH. I've never had an iPhone, so I assume this is where Android ends & Apple advances. I'm also assuming aztopdog's comment was also correct. I work for a major Telcomm Co, but not in the Wireless Department. This application obviously requires Linux OS which is incompatible with Android OS.

Oh well. I just have to keep in mind that we're at the limits of current technology here. It should not be long before Google finds a workaround for this. A month in internet advancement is an eternity...

I don't understand. If you're using a "popular" distro like Ubuntu or Fedora, which love to play by their own rules rather than complying to standards when it comes to filesystem heirarchy, libraries, etc., Chrome's devs will bend over backwards to make packages that accommodate those unique quirks, even though Canonical, Red Hat Inc., etc. have more than enough money to pay their OWN developers to repackage to work on their semiproprietary OSes.

Yet, if you're using any other distro, many of which do a much better job at keeping things consistent and independent, sticking to long-established Linux standards and distribution-independent dependencies, Google expects YOUR distro provider to re-package Chrome from these broken-unless-you're-using-what-we-want packages. It's "screw you, do it yourself" if you're not using one of The Man's distros.

Newsflash: Other distros don't have big teams of paid workers to work on repackaging every little non-standard package into something that works. Slackware, for example, which has been around since 1993, is more or less a one-man operation, and Slackware is immensely popular even today. There are a great number of third-party Slackware Chrome packages, and all of the ones I've tried have some sort of problem with them because the idiot packaging them missed something obvious. This could have been avoided at the top level of development.

"Contact your distribution for a repackage" is making a lot of assumptions that clearly demonstrate Google's lack of knowledge of the Linux community. They are assuming all the volunteers who make distros have the time and patience to do such a thing, AND do it well, AND constantly keep it up to date in case any security issues pop up. This will likely never happen, at least not at a rate anyone concerned about security and updates will be happy with. The only way this could possibly happen is if Chrome were completely open-source, but since we're not going to get that, we should at least get a reasonable alternative.

It would make more sense for Google to provide distribution-independent tarballs that rely on distribution-independent dependencies. I'm not saying source code, just a standards-compliant package. I don't care if it's full of precompiled binaries, so long as they actually work.

This way there's ONE package for (almost) ALL Linux operating systems. The few it might not work on and would require repackaging are typically the big-name distros with enormous financial backing, and I'm sure they'd have no problem providing Google with their packages in a timely manner.

The current philosophy of the development of Chrome on Linux is backwards and lazy. Packaging it for a handful of newbie distros and saying "there, it's on Linux, it's platform-independent" falls far below even calling the job half-assed. Get to work, people. Work for our market share. For real, this time. Until then, I'll stick with Firefox and put up with its issues even though I wish I were running Chrome.

Okay, I happend to end up here as there is no obivous way to copy text from a webpage on the standard android (2.1) browser, and I really needs to do that. I Wrote a very long message and it failed to post, luckily I was able to go back and see a preview. But that seems to be how lucky it gets.. The standard browser is really retarded compared to how browsers for computers are - and always been. I Think that I can copy text even in Lynx...

Well, for over a year most comments on here have been requesting an Android version of Chrome. As of right now, my GoogleTV is using version 5, and Hulu and a several other major video streaming websites have blocked GTV users from accessing their content that's freely available to other normal versions of Chrome. Why are you handicapping us end-users?

To all the people asking where Chrome for Android is, if you read some of the posts other than your own, you will learn that there is no Chrome for Android. Yes, Google built an operating system, but didn't bother to include their own browser with it. Brilliant! Try Opera instead. It is a solid browser with a few quirks that has some nice features.

Or better yet, check out Dolphin Browser. Again, an excellent browser with more add-ons than all the other Android browsers combined.

Either way, you can't go wrong. And Google seems in no hurry to port Chrome over to Android...

Jolicloud needs a better version of chrome. Chromium doesn't have the add-ons we need. Stupid cloud computing thing...Well, stupid other stuff that's afraid of open source, that makes me need add-on stuff I can't get...Is there a way to watch Itunes/Blockbuster/Netflix videos on Linux yet? Without a VM...Chrome should add something to play drm videos...Then I can finally chuck my twenty minutes to load windows computers.

Uh, Mint uses the exact same package format as Ubuntu, so hopefully the Debian/Ubuntu official Chrome package (google.com/chrome?platform=linux) does work with it.

I have a notepad with both windows and android software channels. Whilst microsoft regularly update their software, the android software of firefox is never updated and according to gmail is out of date. It would appear that neither firefox or google chrome can provide suitable browsers for android so the concept of android on notepad is in advance of the technology it uses, not good.
