Issue 51519: German translation of "Memory" should be "Speicher" instead of "Arbeitsspeicher" in Task Manager window

Reported by norb...@rittel.de, Aug 8, 2010
German

6.0.472.25

Mac OS X 10.6.4

The column header "Memory" in Chrome's Task Manager window is currently localized in German as "Arbeitsspeicher". The column width is too small to show this full word so it becomes truncated, and this cannot be fixed by the user as the default column width is also the max.

See enclosed screen shot pair.

Simply using "Speicher" here instead of "Arbeitsspeicher" should be fine.

That's intentional. It seemed wrong to me to make that column as wide as the header when none of the values in that column will need that much space. Do you think that's wrong?

That why I suggested to change the column header from "Arbeitsspeicher" to just "Speicher" so it will fit the supplied space. :-)

Sounds reasonable.

mal, what's the right procedure to change translations again?

You can suggest a translation through the Translation Console from inside Google.

I've recommended using "Speicher" here instead of "Arbeitsspeicher", but what about
"Privater Arbeitsspeicher" and "Freigegebener Arbeitsspeicher"?

This doesn't seem to help shorten those columns (unless I'm missing something), though we should probably shorten to Speicher to be consistent.

Opinions one way or another?

"Privater Speicher" and "Freigegebener Speicher" sound good to me (I'm a native speaker). But these two columns are hidden by default anyway, and not calculated correctly, so it's not all that important :-)

You can compare to Apple's Activity Monitor- see enclosed menu screen shot pair.

The also use just "Speicher" in all theses places.

But note that "Shared Memory" should not be localized as "Freigegebener Speicher" but "Gemeinsamer Speicher" instead (highlighted in the screen shot pair).

we can upstreamed it internally to localization team. they have a team of language specialist to review and determine what translation should be more propriate here.
