Issue 113546: [uber page] Help page does not show the update status
8 people starred this issue and may be notified of changes. Back to list

Reported by project member or...@chromium.org, Feb 9, 2012
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open chrome://chrome/settings directly or select 'About Chrome OS' from the wrench menu
2. Look for the 'About' section

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There is no longer an 'About' section

This is a regression from R17/R18 and from OS version 1661.0.0

I think they wanted [uber page] in the subject to raise visibility of issues with the new settings page...
Summary: [uber page] Missing about menu. Can't trigger AU
Comment 2 by jhawk...@chromium.org, Feb 10, 2012
The 'Help' page is the new about page. Note it's not complete yet.

Is it Aura specific? that would surprise me.
Status: Assigned
Comment 9 by Kusc...@chromium.org, Feb 14, 2012
I don't think it is Aura specific but Settings page specific. There are a few issues:

1) It should say Chrome OS and not Chrome
2) We need to show the platform and firmware
3) Check for update button
4) Links to Chromium and Chrome OS open source projects

Essentially I believe we are linking the wrong About page ... (Chrome instead of Chrome OS) I attached the mock how this should look like on Chrome OS.

Removing ReleaseBlock-Dev since platform version and firmware details are available for CrOS now.

After r122372 Windows now also lacking the ability to check update immediately that the [About Google Chrome] dialogue used to have. I guess it's just not implemented yet, but it is too important to be missing even only for now.

Went over it more in depth. There is actually more missing here. See screenshot and my comment #9

1) It should say Chrome OS and not Chrome
2) We need to show the platform and firmware - now fixed
3) Check for update button
4) Links to Chromium and Chrome OS open source projects
5) Channel change box / WebKit / V8 / User Agent / Command line /

On loading chrome://chrome/help, there is a check for update. Updates are being downloaded and there is a ui to show the progress.

However...

We are missing a page with info and actions. Please put it back or disable the new uber page until it has parity with R17/R18 functionality.

This is the version that I am using:

Google Chrome	19.0.1048.0 Aura (Official Build 122775) canary
Platform	1781.0.0 (Official Build) canary-channel
WebKit	535.22 (@108237)
JavaScript	V8 3.9.7
Flash	11.2.31.106

About Chrome OS page still says "Google Chrome" instead of "Chrome OS". There is separate bug to track this issue https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?can=1&q=122645

So, closing this as verified Chrome OS: 2046.92.0, Chrome: 19.0.1084.47
