works fine
How do I get it to open a map link in maps? It has opened Google Maps in the browser on my phone instead.
Works perfectly for me in Canada on WIND mobile. This is very impressive!
No, not working for me. I have the desktop and the phone "hooked up" (registered) to the same account but when I try to use the extension I get:
Error sending link: Error: Server Error
The server encountered an error and could not complete your request. If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention this error message and the query that caused it.
The link on "report" does nothing.
My system: uname -a Linux blingo 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Fri Apr 30 20:34:53 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
About Chromium:6.0.413.0 (47980)
My bad, saw this was already marked as an issue. Found relevant bug and implemented work-around. Fantastic!
How do I send maps? I created direction in google maps desktop but when I click send it doesnt do anything.
Similar to what @srikkanth.m said - finding directions in Google Maps in the chrome browser and then clicking the "Chrome to Phone" extension button sends the link to the phone, the Maps application loads on the phone, but it does not load the directions that were found.
I made a simple javascript so it can be used in other browsers as well.
Here is instructions on how to use this in other browsers: http://t.pakten.org/android/chrome-to-phone-other-browsers.html
This would be even cooler if it went in the other direction as well. Using the share option in the browser on the phone you could send webpages right to your computer that would open.
awesome...very handy
trygveaa's javascript would not work for me in IE6, which I'm forced to use at work. I followed his instructions, but replaced the javascript in the bookmark with the following:
javascript:void(window.open('http://chrometophone.appspot.com/send?title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'&url='+encodeURIComponent(document.location.href)));
This version opens up an unnecessary window, but it's all I could figure out for IE6. If anyone with a better handle of javascript than me can improve this, please post.
very cool. almost as fun as watching squirrels fight.
Where are the troubleshooting tips? This totally doesn't work and I would like to work out why. I believe I have followed all the instructions but it does nothing. Browser extension installed, android app installed and running, device registered, matching google accounts. I click the chrometophone thing in my browser and I see a pop-up: "sending link to phone..." and the pop-up never goes away until I click on something else. And nothing happens on my phone. Advice?
is it supposed to work with Google Apps account? I keep getting "user unknown" when registering, and "server error" when trying to send link
On my home computer (with home wifi) this works flawlessly with Chrome/Froyo/N1. But at work, with my work computer's Chrome and my work network (wifi), the links look like they get sent (no errors) but don't appear on the phone.
come on add this app to the Market that only Froyo 2.2 (or higher) system can search for it so that we don't have to check back this page and set it to auto update.
The extension apparently sends the link shown in the browser's URL bar to the phone, so if you're on http://maps.google.com/ it will send you to the maps home view and won't send the current directions.
A workaround is to use the maps "Link" tool (top right above the map), copy the URL and paste it into a new browser window, then use the extension to send that. That's of course a bit clunky, but I'm assuming this will become better integrated.
amla70 and myself have created a Firefox extension to use chrometophone with Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
For non Chrome and non Firefox. Eh.. a.k.a. Opera, SRWare Iron, Arora, Konqueror, Amaya, Dillo (sorry IE doesn't seem to work) I've made a cross browser bookmark. It's at http://my.opera.com/paddy2k/blog/2010/05/21/browser-2-android
for maps, I believe you have to enable it from within android options from the app itself (checkbox)
Just updated chrome, then it couldn't send to phone just hung. But reinstalling the plugin fixed the issue.
@ahdchild - IE6? Does your employer know that even Microsoft doesn't support IE6 any longer? I feel for ya man.
It didn't work with emulator.."Link sent to phone" message showed at desktop, but my Android emulator didn't show up anything. Android version is 2.2, and have set the settings/account for the APK(Chrometophone-andoird.apk)..Appreciate if any suggestion..
did you guys pull down the chrome extension?
I have FroYo? running on a Nexus One. I followed all these instructions perfectly.
However, when sending to the phone via Chrome, my phone says, "The application Chrome to Phone (process com.google.android.apps.chrometophone) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Any ideas?
patrick.oreilly, ur firefox extension is working flawlessly.
how long does it take to register, I am running on my droid, or trying
I am running froyo on my droid and when i hit register device, it just sits at "Status: Registering device..." Anything i can do?
Mine is Also Stuck on Registering Device. Moto Droid, Android 2.2
Link to new leak for Droid that works with Chrome to Phone: http://alldroid.org/tabid/62/g/posts/t/222/FRF57-LEAK.aspx
Mine worked first day I tried it two days ago. Now, when reinstalling app on my Droid 2.2, it just hangs on "Registering device..."
phone hangs on registering device and chrome says error sending to phone:error (user unknown)
i try to register device. it spins for a while saying registering then returns device is not registered.
Nexus one on froyo.
Will it work on 2.1?
I have a parse error on my droid incredible and im not sure how to fix rather than installing it to my sd card and force install with an installer ??????
this sucks now i realize it only works for the nexus since thats the only phone with the unofficial google 2.1
Works well on my HTC Desire with froyo installed. Would be nice if I could turn off the notification sound though -- I know I've got a new link, because I just sent it!
Does this mechanism mean that the phone maintains a TCP connection to a Google server? If so, how does it manage battery power? For example, push email (similar concept) kills your battery - TCP connection keeps the radio circuitry alive - possibly the biggest power drain component of the phone!)...
It worked fine in May and the beginning of June. When I went to use it towards the end of June, it didn't work until I updated both the app on the phone and the Chrome extension, to the newest version - released on June 10th/11th.
It works fine again.
Works well on firefox and a bit slow on chrome to mobile (Nexus One, Froyo). hmmmmm can I send text and stuff like that I ask myself?
N1 2.2
Won't register device.
How do I send text and phone numbers?
sending highlighted text and phone numbers does not work for me. maps and links work fine.
android 2.2 on nexus one and chrome 5.0.3...
How is it supposed to work? (Send text and phone numbers?)
Windows 7 pro 64 bit, Chrome 5.0.375.99, Froyo FRF91, N1
Awesome! send web link worked directly. To send map loc, I had to get the complete map URL by clicking the loc, more>Send and copying the url into browser. Then I could successfully use the C2P button. Some instructions on all this has to be added to this site. What I really like with this (in addition to a useful app) is the nice source code, for me to learn how to do things like this in my own apps.
I got send phone number working, I selected a phone number and clicked the C2P button. After a long while the phone call opened with the number on my phone. This app needs better user interface feed-back to be really usable. I tried selecting non phone no text, but that didn't get added to the clipboard on the phone - the phone number was still there when I tried. Sending phone number and text would be better using the right-click-menu on top of the text. Now after some minutes the text was received on my phone.
I get a Parse Error on my Droid Incredible. Doesn't matter if I download from device or from PC based browser. Any suggestions?
This would be a lot nicer if you didn't have to create an account to make it work. Why not have the option of sending it via bluetooth, so that all you have to do is pair your phone and PC?
i get a parse error too on Droid
Can this be back-ported to 2.1 and sent as an update? My provider isn't going to release 2.2 for some time.
N1 2.2
Won't register device. Have a Google Apps domain.
(anyone from Google even looking at this thred?)
@tjompa Google Apps does not work. Create a 'Google Account' using the same e-mail. Then use that account (though some Android features require a GMail account, so I have both)
N1 2.2, cannot register device
Please support Google Apps domains!
alvaroreguly, if you are on the Trusted Testers Programme for Google Apps Enterprise then it is already working.
ChromeToPhone? will only work with Android 2.2 as it relies on the C2DM framework that was introduced as part of 2.2, hence I doubt it will ever be backported to 2.1.
@HMHackMaster I've got a google account and google apps with the same address this didn't help.
"Comment by joshuavongarber, May 24, 2010 very cool. almost as fun as watching squirrels fight."
ROFLMAO!!! Yeah, that's about it, isn't it?
QR code for download page: http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=230x230&chl=http%3A%2F%2Fcode.google.com%2Fp%2Fchrometophone%2Fdownloads
Or go to the page for an individual file to get a QR code image :-/
I am looking for right click functions to send text & number. Time for the things work is around 10 second...sometime a min.
Would be nice to have the android part of the application open either the default android browser or some sort of viewer. Presently, when I send a phone number to the phone, the android notification bar application opens the phone. Likewise, the android notification bar app will launch the browser for a URL. However, when I have sent arbitrary text to the phone (which seems to require firefox BTW) the app running on the notification bar just clear the notification and tosses the sent text. I can't even read it all when the text sent is more than a short sentence.
Nice... Worked at first go.
Does this allow you to push from phone to browser (reverse)?
I cant find the extension???
how do I make sure or update Android 2.2 on my EVO?
Is it just me or has the Chrome to Phone extension been removed from https://chrome.google.com/extensions ???
I cant find the extension either
I just find "LinkPush?"
reply on "Comment by troy.hart, Jul 20, 2010" The text is in your "copy/paste" thingie. Just paste it somewhere to see it ;)
Can't find the extension...
Can't find the extension...what's the deal can some post it???
The extension is available under Downloads-tab on this site. However, I don't get how I connect my extension to my account and start using it?
where is the program to download for the computer
I get an error: unable to connect. He found my gmail adress Do i have something change in my chrome browser?
HTC Evo w/ Froyo 2.2 does not work at all. It say my phone is linked to my account and when i click on the chrome to phone extension nothing happens. No error messages or anything. Nothing sends.
HTC Evo w/ Froyo 2.2 works great for me, thank you for this App.
Is there a plan to add a push from Chrome Google Maps Directions to Google Navigation on the phone instead of static directions into Google Maps on the phone? Thanks.
If you need the Chrome extension, in your Chrome web browser go here: http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/downloads/list and click on chrometophone-extension-v1.0.crx
Using Froyo 2.2 on a Motorola Droid... I installed and registered the Android app... I installed and registered the Chrome extension... both are registered to the same gmail account (normal gmail, not Google Apps)... anything I try to send says "Sent to Phone"... however, the phone does nothing. Nothing at all. Are there steps I can take to debug this?
So, I solved my own problem. It would seem that my phone's internal storage was running low. It had only 24.7 megabytes free (not the SD card, the internal storage). It seems the "low space" message appears at the 25 megabyte mark.
When the phone's internal storage is considered low, it will not receive messages via the Chrome to Phone extension. To make space, I deleted the Google Earth application (it takes up 25 megabytes). I'd love for the Google Earth application to be able to be installed on the SD card like some other apps, then I can install it again. In the meantime, this seems to be working just fine now. Thanks.
Using Froyo on an HTC Desire; scanned the QR code and downloaded the .apk, and nothing seems to happen, no new icon anywhere. What next?
@Dean.Haynes: ChromeToPhone? should appear in your app drawer.
HTC Evo w/ Froyo 2.2; PC Firefox w/ SendToPhone? Awesome !! Thank you for the App & Firefox add-on
Couldn't get the extension to work in Chrome, however it worked in Firefox.
Changed the extension to work as a page_action rather than a browser action works fine now, however need to be running the dev channel of chrome to access the contextmenus API to allow sending selected text to the phone.
I just cannot find the extension for firefox 1.0, currently have to use v 0.9.2, and cannot use the phone number sending
Calvin, It can be downloaded from the addons versions page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/versions/1.0
how do i open the crx file when i download it?
Followed the set up instructions to enable this on my Desire, works a treat! I just need to find a reason to use it ;-)
Is there a way to change the server name like there is in android2cloud? Would rather use my personal app server
If you cannot register make sure you have background data enabled. Accounts & Sync > Background Data.
mine is a googlemail account and i sign in and it changes it to gmail when i sign so doesent link up can some one help please ta
@ianskilley: Maybe you should log this as an issue. http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/issues
I'm still having the msg "unable to connect" to my HTC desire even after reading all this post !
s/Not that/Note that/ to avoid puzzling me for a number of seconds on the meaning of the sentence... :)
The GFW have blocked https://chrometophone.appspot.com/ so,have anyone would like to crack it.
marche bien sur Nexus One (forcément... :D) France SFR
Works on Moto Droid running stock 2.2 -- sort of. The copied text is received by the phone and stored in its clipboard. But apparently the Android Web browser's address bar is not recognized as a text box. So no "paste" option shows up when you long press it. So technically, yes, I was able to send a URL to my phone. But now I can't use it to navigate anywhere. #fail
How do I change the app settings on the phone? I'd like to change it to notifications instead of opening automatically, and also change the default browser. But the app isn't showing up as an icon that I can open, and in settings>applications, I tried clearing defaults and that didn't change anything. I'm never offered any options to change default apps, etc. Also - while the chrome to phone icon works fine in chrome, highlighting and right clicking anything doesn't offer me the option to send it to the phone.
Please add support for Google Apps Accounts!!
It does work with a google apps account. Your google apps account needs to be your market account, and your google apps account needs to be transition were migrated to a full google account.
Hi,
I'm using Andriod 2.3.4 on my Google Nexus S. Though I'm able to locate and download chrometophone app on my PC's web browser (Google Chorme), I'm unable to locate this app on my phone's Android market.
Tried the following: 1. Scanned the QR code (http://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chrometophone) from the page that appears on the PC's web browser while signing in for the first time to browser's chrometophone. --> It says "The requested item could not be found." 2. Directed my phone's browser to below link (after ensuring that Settings->Applications->Unknown Sources is checked): http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/downloads & http://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chrometophone ----> It says "404. That's an error. The requested URL /p/chrometophone/download was not found on this server. That's all we know." 3. Tried searching in the Android Market from my phone - This app does not appear on my phone's Android Market but appears on my web browser's (Google Chrome)Android Market.
I do not understand the following link says: "Note: Android 2.2 required. Chrome to Phone is powered by the Android Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) service, which requires Android 2.2 or later. Supports Chrome 6 and above." http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/
I'm using Android 2.3.4 but still am unable to view this app (for download) on my Android phone.
Please help.
Thanks in advance. Pratyush.
this is for us only, google marketenabler and fake a us provider, the app will come up in market. Then restore your provider setup. cheers
This is really nice ! I was wondering if there is a project to also go the other way : send links or urls to Chrome from the mobile device. that would be very handy, as a transplatform tool, starting reading on desktop, then on mobile in the transports, and sending it back on device to finish reading at work (for example).
why isn't the project available for all countries on the android market? i downloaded the older version here and it didn't work.
If unofficial build is ok, https://market.android.com/details?id=fi.xd.android.apps.khrometophone (built from c2p source, some bugfixes included, source @ https://github.com/ypcs/khrometophone/)
Thanks in advance
It is too stupid. First, it should be Android build-in. Second, it should be available worldwide.
test
When I try to install it, Chrome warns me not to, and says chrometophone is "not affiliated with Google" : Chrome to Phone (chrometophone.appspot.com) - not affiliated with Google
What is going on?
I managed to install both extension on chrome and app on android (i have Samsung Galaxy S i9003) but the chrome always says no device found connect a device where as i have signed in using both mobile and chrome.....any help?
I get the same thing no devices found on an htc thunderbolt
Same deal here with the " no device found " error. PC has the extension installed and the app is installed on my HTC Incredible S. Have restarted the phone as well as the browser. The phone is linked to my account.
???????
I get the following message when I go to authorize the chrome extension:
The Chrome To Phone application on your computer is requesting access to your Google Account for the product(s) listed below.
If you grant access, you can revoke access at any time under 'My Account'. The Chrome To Phone application will not have access to your password or any other personal information from your Google Account. Learn more
If you want me to use the extension, then this needs to be fixed.
Regards
I have installed the app on my Samsung Galaxy note, and install the chrome to mobile on chrome, sign in google in the same account but I always get the message"no device found"? what should i do to solve this problem....
