You are invited to participate in a research project entitled CESARE-FireBase: User Experience Study.
This project is being conducted by a student researcher Samara Neilson as part of a PhD study at Victoria University under the supervision of Prof. Ian Thomas from the Centre for Environmental Safety and Risk Engineering (CESARE).
CESARE-FireBase is a fire data management system program currently under development intended to fill a need within the field of Fire Engineering for a specialised toolset capable of supporting the unique activities of its users with a particular focus on fire simulations.
Made up of a series of software components and tools designed to aid in the process of data entry, storage and analysis, it forms a foundation around the supported fire models to aid fire engineers and scientists in their fire simulation endeavours.
The primary focus of this software project is to significantly increase the usability and interoperability of many popular fire simulators starting with the Consolidated Model of Fire and Smoke Transport (CFAST) and the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) including Smokeview and FDS+Evac, all primarily developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
This study has two Survey phases. You can choose to participate in one or both Survey phases.
For the first Survey phase, you will be asked to complete an online survey hosted by Google Docs at your leisure within the study period, regarding your general usage habits and experience with some popular fire modelling software.
For the second Survey phase, you will be asked to complete an online survey hosted by Google Docs at your leisure within the study period, regarding your experiences with CESARE-FireBase and popular fire modelling software.
The information gathered will be used to assist with the ongoing development of CESARE-FireBase to ensure that it is going to be both a useful and usable product and able to benefit the Fire Engineering community.
To participate in the first Survey, it is assumed that you have had some previous experience with fire simulation software, such as FDS or CFAST, and feel comfortable answering some questions regarding your experiences with it.
To participate in the second Survey, it is assumed that you have installed and are familiar enough with CESARE-FireBase to feel comfortable answering some questions regarding your experience with it.
If you are interested in receiving email notifications related to the availability of CESARE-FireBase and second survey, please email Samara for more information, or alternatively you will be given the opportunity to enter your email address at the end of the first survey.
