Install
To install "> cd to ..." copy it to your Applications folder, and then from the applications folder drag it into the Finder toolbar.
Usage
To use just click on it in the Toolbar and it will open the terminal window
To use with iTerm or X11/xterm, using the finder contextual menu "show package contents" and exchange the plugins in the Plugin/Plugin Disabled folders respectively. Next time you run "cd to" it should open with the correct application.
Great tool!
Excellent work!
awesome!!!
I had to ctrl+drag it to get it to stay in the toolbar.
You don't want Terminal.app to open two windows when using 'cd to…', so open Terminal.app, close all windows and save these nonexistent windows as a 'window group'. (Sounds strange, doesn't it? ;-) Then change the Start-Preferences to start with this 'windows group'. If you open Terminal.app with 'cd to…' now, it only opens one window, if you open Terminal.app by doubleclick or dock, it will still open a standard terminal window with pwd=userdir.
Thanks for the 'window group' tip. It feels much better.
I have Terminal opening in a custom color scheme (actually Pro scheme) but this script opens only the default white-on-black scheme. How can I set it to open the other scheme?
I love this script! There are others around but none as neat as this one.
Thanks
This is very nice!
How do I get it to open a new tab in my current iTerm window rather than creating a new window?
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you.
Two problems:
1) When I do "Get Info" from Finder, I don't see anything section about "Plugins" anywhere. Fortunately, I got it to work for iTerm by doing "Show Package Contents", and rearranging the .bundle files in the "PlugIns?" and "PlugIns? Disabled" folders.
2) I would also like for it to open a new tab in iTerm instead of a whole other window. Otherwise, perfect tool!
Thanks for this little app :) A feature to make it open in new tab instead of a new window would be much appreciated.
kthxbaï ~ktr
Well done! Thanks. Could you assign a keyboard shortcut to it?
Nice tool.. though like istrasci, I'm stumped in that I can't find any reference to plugins in the Finder info screen.
How would I go about adding a new plugin for iTerm2 (http://code.google.com/p/iterm2/)
johntimo: have a look at this thread:
http://code.google.com/p/cdto/issues/detail?id=23
I use iTerm 90% of the time, but occasionally I have to use Terminal for things that (currently) don't work in iTerm.
It would be really handy if it could detect which one was running and just use that one. If both are running, it could take the one most recently used (as shown in the Command-Tab app list).
Thanks!
Any update on opening a new tab instead of window?
Thank you! Open window in new tab was be great!
Thank you! This is great tool!
Has anyone had an issue with cd to on Lion? Since installing any time I try to install software it opens a Terminal window and the app will not install. This has happened each of the 4 software installs I've attempted since installing the Lion version of cdto. I've since uninstalled cdto but the behavior still occurs. I can't be 100% sure its cdto but it was the last thing I installed before this happened. If anyone has any suggestions or experience with this I'd sincerely appreciate the help.
Thanks for this great utility i've been using on Snow Leopard. I've upgraded to Lion and installed the last cdto but each time i use it i have something like : Last login: Fri Sep 23 23:09:46 on ttys000 /Users/me/Documents ; exit; me-macbook:~ me$ /Users/me/Documents ; exit; -bash: /Users/me/Documents: is a directory logout completed?
Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
@Francois - I've not seen that but think that there may be something going on since I started to cdto on Lion as well. The app worked like a champ under Snow Leopard but have seen some odd behavior on Lion. It may not be you per se. This is a great utilitiy so I'm hoping to hear from the developer here soon.
doesn't seem to work with iterm 2
Yes, it won't work for me with iTerm 2 either
