Overview
Booze is a desktop game that plays Shogi. Shogi is a variation of chess from Japan whose most interesting feature is the ability to bring captured pieces back into play. It works on all major operating systems and has a nice, easy 3D user interface. Difficulty levels are appropriate for novice to intermediate players.
The currently supported games are Shogi, Tori Shogi and Mini-Shogi. Others will be added in the future.
Technical Notes
Booze is written in C++ and uses wxWidgets and OpenGL for the user interface. It requires wxWidgets 2.6 or newer in order to compile. The wx backends known to work are wxMSW, wxMAC and wxGTK.
The game engine was designed to support multiple chess-like games. Future versions of Booze will also be able to play western chess, xiangqi, and a few others yet to be decided on.
