Feature Ideas for iTunes-LAME.
Introduction
This page contains brainstormed ideas for what may be added to iTunes-LAME in the future. An idea listed here does not guarantee it will ever be implemented, it's just a place to brainstorm.

Scalability to all available processors (more than just two).
I have written some code which adds a feature to suppress the word "The" from the artist name used in file paths.
So tracks whose artist is "The Rolling Stones" get stored in a folder named "Rolling Stones", for example.
Right now, this is implemented as a global switch, not per file - this I think is the Right Thing. Although I don't understand why anyone would not want this behavior, it probably would be best to include a switch in the Prefs Sheet to control this.
Re: Removing "The"
I agree and do the same thing, but iTunes already ignores a beginning "The" when sorting artists, so I'm not sure that it is all that important...
Feature suggestion
iTunes-LAME should pass EVERY populated tag (up to and including album art) to the MP3s it creates. I'm in the process of converting my rather large lossless collection (much of which is fully tagged with the sort artist and album tags included) but I must go through and re-populate those tags in the converted files. This is a huge duplication of effort.
bwanderson, please post this to the Issues section ... we can discuss it there.
Does this use the latest LAME version (3.9.7)?
yes, the "2.0.9-test4" build in the downloads page includes LAME 3.9.7.
Re: Removing "The"
Oops, I omitted a very important point. The change I've made doesn't alter ID3v2 tagging all. The removal of "The " only affects the names used for files and folders. So that the Stones show up under Rs in the Finder!
I'd love to see ID3.1 tagging added to all files as they are ripped, as well as ID3.2 tags.
My car player, for example, can only read ID3.1 tags - currently I have to add them afterward I rip.
Maybe I missed it, but I'd like to see a short README come with the program. I'm still messing with it and I'm not sure how it's going to be integrated with iTunes. I'm guessing I'll just click "import" and it will work through iTunes.
Also, some explanation of symbols used in "Alternate Naming Convention" is needed.
This software is much needed for Macs. Thanks!
One more feature suggestion: allow the option of having files saved in within a folder with the artist's name (and maybe in a folder one deeper with the album name).
More presets predefined. A lot of people would use settings like: "-V 0 --vbr-new", "-V 1 --vbr-new", "-V 2 --vbr-new"
But doesn't -V 0 use --vbr-new by default?
Whoops, I guess it doesn't. D'oh!
Hey. Here's a possible bug. I decided to view the track info in iTunes for a track that had previously been encoded while the encoder was still working (i.e. I viewed the info of the first encoded track while it was encoding track 5). When I did that, I noticed that the encoder wasn't adding tracks to the playlist. When I switched over to the encoder window to see what was up, it definitely looked a bit askew. There appeared to be several greyed out progress bars and duplicated lines (sorry for the lame - ha! - description there). When I went into iTunes and closed out the track info the current track (track 8) was put into the library but 5, 6, and 7 were left out. Then I got a kernal panic. After the restart I simply tried again without deleting anything from iTunes. It quickly encoded or appeared to encode tracks 1 to 8 (again) and then told me it was done.
That doesn't seem right.
Okay, further information. I went back and deleted the files from the 2nd attempt and encoded a completely different CD (without any problems). Then I went back to that original CD and tried to re-encode it. I was on track 10 when I thought I'd take a look at the containing folder in the finder. I got a kernel (sorry for the earlier misspelling) panic (again - argh!) shortly thereafter. I'm nearly 100% positive I didn't look at the folder in the finder for the cd that completed successfully.
Hopefully that is helpful information for the bug fixers. :)
And for the trifecta of annoying posts. I (once again) deleted the files and folder created on the last unsuccessful go of that 1st CD I tried and, like any good masochist, tried once again. This time I was careful to not do anything which would make the computer try to access the file via the finder or iTunes. And this time she worked!
Okay, this is the last one, promise.
Allow more than two encoding threads for those with quad (or, gasp, octo) core setups.
