Blackboard CAS Fallback

NOTES

It seems the installer has issues with ANY custom authentication module. It is suggested to default back to the rdbms authentication module before any upgrade!

Release

1.2

This release adds the ability to specify the LDAP search attribute and fixes a problem with SP6. You may have to add a new attribute to authentication.properties and authentication.properties.template. for the new LDAP search attribute.

1.1

This release fixes a problem with multi threaded access to the LDAP Context. See http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6516308

1.0

Announcing the initial release of a Blackboard CAS Fallback Authentication Module we have been working on. You may ask yourself, why another CAS module? There are already at least two other projects out there. To answer that, we found that there are non-web based tools like Respondus and WebDAV that require passwords to be sent for authentication. They cannot take advantage of CAS. This module will use CAS if requested, but it will also fall back to LDAP and/or the internal Blackboard database to check passwords. This enables web users to take advantage of single sign on, and keep the WebDAV and Respondus people still in business.

Description

This package provides a multi stage authentication source for Blackboard Learn 9.1. It uses CAS when available, LDAP when a username and password is presented and if that fails it falls back to the internal Blackboard authentication. This has been tested on Blackboard Learn 9.1 and is currently being used in a Beta test of BBLearn 9.1. Very little stress testing has been preformed on this auth module. You have been warned! ;-) Hopefully this code will mature quickly.

Installation

There is a document in the Wiki on how to install this authentication module
