Quick start guide.
Quick Start GuideThis guide will walk you through your first time using Bites by planning to make baked beans on toast for a dinner party. Your guests might not come back but it should be a simple example, so let's get started. Once you have installed Bites start it up and you'll see the home page with the the main activities.
Bites Home Page InventoryFirst let's add an ingredient to our inventory. Click the "Inventory" button and you'll be taken to the Inventory page. This page lists all ingredients currently in your inventory, click the Menu button and select "Insert" to put a enter a new ingredient. You should now be at the Inventory Edit page, ready to add a new ingredient to your inventory.
Inventory Edit Page So lets add some beans to the cupboard - enter the following:
Now just press the back button, these changes will be saved and the Inventory List will show Baked Beans. Press back once more to get to the home page. RecipesNow we want to enter a recipe, so click the "Recipes" button to get to the recipe list. Here we want to add a recipe so click the menu button and then "insert", this takes us to the recipe edit page.
Recipe Edit Page Now we can create our first recipe. Set the fields on this page like this:
Click on "method" to expand a list of method steps. This is empty because we haven't added any yet, so click menu and "Add Method Step" to go the method edit page. When you insert a method step, the next step number is automatically filled in on the method edit page, so we just need to add the text to our method step. In the method field enter "Heat up baked beans", then push the back button and you should see this step in the method list. Repeat the above to add the next steps "Toast bread slices" and "Spread beans evenly over toast slices". Now we need to add some ingredients, so click menu then "Add Ingredient" which will take us to the inventory list page. Pick Baked Beans from the list and then in the inventory edit page that follows enter "1" in the quantity field, then the back button. Baked Beans will now appear in the ingredients list on the recipe edit page. Now we want to add some slices of bread, bread slices are not in the inventory so this will be a bit different. First click menu then "Add Ingredient" which takes us to the inventory list, bread slices are not here so click menu, Insert to create a new ingredient. On the inventory edit page fill in the fields like this:
Now hit the back button to enter this new ingredient taking us back to the inventory list. Click "Bread" from the list, then in the following inventory edit page enter "4" in the Quantity field then click the back button. Now we have a complete Beans on Toast recipe. Meal PlannerIt's time to plan a meal, so click back until you hit the bites home page. Now click "Meal Planner" then on the meal planner list page click menu, Insert, which will take you to the recipe list page to select a recipe to make for your guests. Click "Beans on toast", this will take you to the meal planner edit page to enter the number of serves you want to make. Enter "4" in the Number of serves field and click the back button. Beans on toast for 4 people is now in the meal planner. Click back again to go to the Bites home page. Shopping ListNow you can check out your automatically generated shopping list. Click "Shopping List" to go to the shopping list page.
Shopping List Page Here you can see that you will need 2 cans of beans and 8 slices of bread to make beans on toast for 4 people. Click on one of the shopping list items and you will see it grey out with a strikethrough, use this when you are shopping to tick off items that are in your trolley. When you are finished shopping hit menu, "Finish Shopping" and all items that are ticked off will be added to your inventory. |
