This project is for the development of the map and timeline of the cities and empires of the ancient world at http://www.belteshazzar.org

The site uses google maps to show the cities and empire outlines of the ancient world. A timeline allows you to navigate through history and see how the ancient world changed over time. The site makes extensive use of jquery.

Note that this project holds everything for the website (the html, javascript, php backend, and dumps of the database).

Timeline

• January 2010 - IDEA - Idea for the site from reading "The Fall of Empires by Cormac O'Brien" (thanks for the christmas present mum and dad!) - I kept looking at maps to try and visualise the interplay between different empires and cities.
• January-February 2010 - INITIAL DEVELOPMENT - Core of the site developed with jquery, php and mysql.
• 16 February 2010 - LIVE - Uploaded the site to hosting provider, now to add cities and empires.
• 17 February 2010 - FIRST BUG - viewed the site at work in IE8 and the forms aren't working, easy fix (i tested extensively with IE8 before going live but hadn't been checking the compatibility mode that IE was using)

Future Plans

A future aim is to add animation through time, rulers of cities and empires, and notable events.
