issue 362 (ATV cant see the usb on reboot) commented on by marcos.bilbao   -   I tried two of my existing flash drives with no luck... Went to Target and found three different flash drives to try. While going to check out I saw a cheap 1GB Dane-Elec 1GB flash drive UPC 04271 72774. Went home.. tried the 1GB Dane-Elec 1GB first. It worked perfectly the first time. Go figure... Before that the ATV did not detect anything.

issue 428 (New Atv 'Software' Menu that does nothing) commented on by jens.vf   -   I figured it out! I missed that you have to put a "/" in front of the .run file in the Terminal window. For all others like me; I spent a lot of time with logging on to the ATV because I thought I couldn’t type the password because it was not showing. Slow as I am it took a while to realize that it was being typed in even dough it does not show in the Terminal window.

issue 411 (APPLE TV 3.0 Update. Will the Patchstick still work?) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   Hey, You should be seeing the penguin as soon as atvbootloader starts up followed by some text as patchstick.sh is run. You will then see a message giving you your default user/pass for SSH and telling you it worked. If it worked -- you will know. It's not something that is hard to tell. You are seeing the recovery screen because either you have held Menu and - or the USB was not booted successfully (this screen doesn't show if the boot from USB is successful). You should also have the extra menus (if you chose to install them)

issue 411 (APPLE TV 3.0 Update. Will the Patchstick still work?) commented on by stevej777   -   Assistance requested on actually booting up the ATV with the patchstick: what should I see to verify that the patch actually worked? I have prepared the usb patchstick using atvusb-creator (on a Mac, using the 2Z694-6004-003.dmg image). The ATV recognizes the flash and boots it; at least I assume that is the case, because I wind up witht the screen that offers 3 choices (restart, diags, restore to factory defaults). I never see anything on the screen that suggests that ssh is being enabled. What should I expect to see before power down the ATV? Thanks.

issue 450 (Apple Tv Patchstick Creator 3.0 for Windows - Question) Status changed by Sam.Nazarko   -   Yes. If atv-win-3.0 didn't support the 3.x firmware, I wouldn't say it did :) 3.0 will create an image that you can put on a USB drive, the functionality is the same as 2.0 and the 1.0 patchsticks (except you get a GUI). 2.x will work with 3.0 as the boot.efi does not change. However it is the Launcher frappliance that has been updated, and openssh has now been used to replace dropbear. Hope this makes a little sense.

issue 450 (Apple Tv Patchstick Creator 3.0 for Windows - Question) commented on by steve.s.buechler   -   Before AppleTV updated their firmware to version 3.0 and higher, I would download and unzip "atvusb-creator interim solution with SSH/XBMC/Boxee installers for XP/Vista platforms [for 2.4 update]". Then I would launch USB Image Tool.exe, select the 2.4 image file, and it would put the image on my usb patchstick. So I'm trying to ask whether there is a similar download now available to AppleTV version 3.0 and higher? I do see the item "GUI-based Apple Tv Patchstick Creator 3.0 for Windows [all 2.x and 3.x atv updates]" is available for download, but does this do the same thing that I explained above? Does it include the various 3.0 image files that I would need to copy to a usb drive? Thanks in advance.

issue 450 (Apple Tv Patchstick Creator 3.0 for Windows - Question) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   Hey, Yes there are new Software Images. By this I mean that the Launcher/SSH packages are updated. You don't download them yourself. You just pull down atv-win-3.0 and we download the image that is needed (based on the software you choose to install) They are stored in the Images folder of the WebDep section of the atv-win-3.0 trunk. To be honest I'm not sure what you are asking.

issue 449 (No Launcher Menu – Only "Software Menu") reported by RLepine@EurodevGroup.com   -   What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Created Patchstick with atvusb-creator-1.0.b10 and 2Z694-6004-003.dmg 2. Rebooted atv with Patchstick and restarted atv 3. What is the expected output? What do you see instead? Expected a menu offering options such a Boxee (unfortunately, all videos I've seen on the web were for ATV v2, not v3). Instead, I have a second menu called "Software Menu", which has 5 sub-menus of which none work. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? This is a new ATV which came with v3 pre-loaded and which was updated to v3.1. I used Mac OS 10.6.2 to create the Patchstick. Please provide any additional information below. The Patchstick set-up worked without a hitch, and so did the hack of the ATV. It is just the results that are useless.

issue 439 (Apple TV can't be patched after 3.0.1 update) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   Hey, Glad it worked. There is no BeeBox perhaps you mean Boxee. And yes, you have to download Boxee & XBMC onto your Apple TV first. This is by design. I don't think it was the size of the drive, but just the drive itself. Not every USB works with atv-win and to be honest it's not exactly clear why. Just because your Patriot 8GB worked does not mean someone else's will :( The image does only take 244mb or so. We have a small GPT partition of around 25mb for booting and a payloads partition that fills the rest of the 256mb image that is FAT32.

issue 439 (Apple TV can't be patched after 3.0.1 update) commented on by tavee2000   -   Hey Sam, It worked with another USB drive! - The first USB drive was SanDisk 512MB -> NOT worked - The second USB drive Patriot 8G -> WORKED! Both USB drives used the image created by ATV-win. What strange was that the whole image only took 244MB, which fitted in SanDisk 512MB with plenty of space remained. So, I would say use 1Gb USB drive or more. Procedure: 1. Start "usbit.exe", run it as administrator. 2. Make sure that usbit.exe in "Device Mode". Select "Restore" option and select the image previously created by ATV-win 3.0. Note that I already ran ATV-win for the first USB drive, so the image is already created. If you run ATV-win from scratch, the usbit.exe will default the image name for you. 3. Power down the ATV. (I unplugged the power cord.) 4. Insert the USB drive to ATV. 5. Insert the power cord back to ATV. 6. The ATV automatically detect and boot from the USB drive. If you read the screen displayed message, the script found "patchstick.sh" and executed it. The whole process from boot and complete flash take less than 5 minutes. If it takes longer, most likely it failed. 7. After the flash, I rebooted the ATV by unplugging and re-plug the ATV. 8. The ATV show XBMC and Beebox on the menu. 9. The XBMC and BeeBox does not work, yet, at this point. You still have to go into "Download" and download XBMC and BeeBox. Then, it works like MAGIC. Hope this help others. Thanks again Sam, Tavee

Another USB drive -> Have not tried with another USB, but will try it today. I'll post an update a little later. 3. Menu + "-" key. -> Tried it (several times). It simply rebooted the Apple TV and tried to load the ATV-win. The ATV boot from the device fine. - I used Vista-32bit Home Premium to create the ATB-win. First, I unzip the files into a directory. Ran ATV-win, it only allowed me to select ATV-3.01 firmware. - I selected ssh and launcher to bundle the USB drive. I must say the whole process to create USB drive is very good, even better than the previous version. I decided to updated ATV firmware 3.01 because it has a cool feature "Internet Radio" (really like it). I now really miss my XBMC and Beebox.

issue 411 (APPLE TV 3.0 Update. Will the Patchstick still work?) commented on by BBender716   -   Ok, stupid question for a terminal n00b... I patchsticked using the latest firmware dmg and need to update the launcher via mac. So I attempted the terminal commands that Sam posted, but then I'm asked for a password following: "We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things: #1) Respect the privacy of others. #2) Think before you type. #3) With great power comes great responsibility." What is this password? It's not the same as my account password correct? I read something about an admin password and a root password. What's the difference and how do I set the one that I need to proceed with this command prompt? Thanks ahead of time!

Thanks ahead of time!

issue 411 (APPLE TV 3.0 Update. Will the Patchstick still work?) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   Thanks for the thanks :) The Mac version has not been updated yet, only the Windows version. You can however get 3.x working with the Mac version. What you would need to do is download the 3.0.1 firmware file (search for a link they're plastered over this issues tracker) and then select it from the Choose DMG feature of atvusb-creator. You then update Launcher (the frappliance that lets you run Boxee and XBMC) with the following commands in Terminal (via SSH) sudo mount -uw / cd /users/frontrow/ wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/files/Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run chmod +x Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run ./Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run Hope this helps you out :)

issue 448 (Proper patching procedure) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   You will have to "obtain" the 3.0 image from somewhere as it is now removed off mesu.apple.com. You can then use the downgrade script from http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/OSupdate Then to create a patchstick just select the 3.0 firmware in the patchstick creator with the Choose DMG feature.

issue 448 (Proper patching procedure) reported by PORSCHE6459   -   I would like to know the proper patching procedure if I want to go back to ver 3.0. I have 3.0.1 installed it has a lot of issues and I would like to revert back. 3.0 worked great. Do I go back to a factory restore (2.0) and then patch?

issue 446 (Cant get ATV to boot from Stick) reported by illegalprelude   -   Alright guys and gals, ive tried this on my Leopard and Snow Leopard Machine. Ive downloaded the patchstick file. Named my Dos formatted flash drive Patchstick and put the files on there. (even tried it from my XP machine) but once I stick the flash drive to the back of my AppleTV and turn her on, she just does a normal boot. Im running 3.0.1 on my AppleTV. Ive also so far downloaded XMBC on my PC (sense thats where most of my videos are)

issue 442 (Could not unmount disk error -- Help!) commented on by Sam.Nazarko   -   Here are a couple of things to try: I note your USB is a Sandisk. I am presuming this is bundled with U3. Get rid of it as it interferes with the patchstick process. It messes up the partitions. Try restoring your Apple TV and trying again. The issue may not necessarily be with your USB. It can be difficult to remove U3 fully on a Mac. You could try using the Windows version of the patchstick creator which may help in this instance. Let me know how it goes.

issue 441 (Two "Launcher" Menus in Apple TV) Status changed by Sam.Nazarko   -   Sorry it was an issue at our end. Launcher was being deployed in two seperate directories. This was because Davilla did not extract the XBMCLauncher directory. It is completely fine to update now. If you have experienced this problem go to the menu and download the latest Launcher. The install script has been updated to fix this issue. However future installations will not experience this issue at all due to new images in revision 153. These new versions will be automatically downloaded by atv-win-3.0
