Howto install / do an update

The only requirement to install this plugin is an AppleTV with ssh acess. The other steps are quite easy:

  • Copy it to your apple tv e.g. with (password is 'frontrow')
  • scp Launcher-debug-0.9.run frontrow@appletv.local:
  • ssh into your apple tv (passwort is still 'frontrow')
  • ssh frontrow@appletv.local
  • execute the copied file. This will also prompt to restart Finder.
  • sudo sh ./Launcher-debug-0.9.run

A Launcher entry should now appear in the menu.

There's an open patchstick creator project which allows you to create patchstick for an unpatched ATV: http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/

Stephan - I have ssh access to my 2.1 ATV & a number of features (nitoTV, afp, color composite hack & 100 gigs of movie files.) I'm assuming the open patchstick creator is not necessary in my case, as it will wipe out my previous work and media.

Is there a way to use the patchstick creator project to simply install the XBMC & Boxee plugin to my ATV? Or is the launcher script your working on here designed for folks in my situation? Thanks for all your time & efforts, Heroic work on your end! - Don

@BoatBasin? You can install with the script now available under downloads like you did with the other plugins.

I installed the atv-xbmc-launcher on my ATV 2.0.2 per your instructions. I ran the updates for both boxee and xbmc, but when I try to launch Boxee it errors out with "Cannot launch Boxee from path: Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/MacOS/Boxee" and xbmc errors out also. Any ideas? I've tried to reinstall the launcher via the update menu and have had no luck.

joevan, please open up an issue and attach your logfiles. Thanks!

Can you pretty-please include some sort of instruction that makes it clear that this cannot be installed on AppleTV firmware 1.0 & 1.1? Just mention that it's only for firmware 2.0 or Take2.

Please also add it to the FAQ on http://wiki.boxee.tv/FAQ#Apple_TV and to the installation instructions at http://wiki.boxee.tv/AppleTV_Installation ? Thanks ever so much! <3

I'm lost. I tried to copy the example and paste it into Terminal, but I got "no such file or directory." Below is the Terminal window:

scp XBMCLauncher-debug-0.9.run frontrow@appletv.local:G5:~ li...@mac.com$ scp XBMCLauncher-debug-0.9.run frontrow@appletv.local:frontrow Welcome to the AppleTV (via atv-usbcreator) frontrow@appletv.local's password: XBMCLauncher-debug-0.9.run: No such file or directory

li...@mac.com: please open a new issue and describe the problem. Because of the formatting above I can't even see what's going on ;)

I have installed Launcher but I do not have an option for the Multifinder... Is my install corrupt, or is Multifinder a separate application that I need to download and install?

Comment by project member stephan.diederich@gmail.com, May 18, 2009

@chris: It's there, but hidden. See the release thread on howto enable it http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48332 HTH, stephan

Comment by chris.da...@gmail.com, May 18, 2009

Thanks Stephan,

So all I have to do to enable it is SSH into my AppleTV (presumably at sudo bash?) and type defaults write com.teamxbmc.xbmclauncher XBMCExpertMode 1 ?

(I don't have access to my ATV until later tonight, so i'm just looking for confirmation of what to do when I get home).

Thanks again for the quick response on my initial query.

Comment by project member stephan.diederich@gmail.com, May 18, 2009

exactly. probably you'll have to restart your ATV afterwards. Then a new option will show up in Launcher->Settings to enable MultiFinder?. Just as a sidenote: MultiFinder?.app was put into XBMCLauncher's frapplicance.

Cheers Stephan, it worked a treat. CHRIS

Are you just trying to install XBMC on your AppleTV? You don't need to ssh it, just follow http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMC_for_Mac_on_Apple_TV#HOW-TO_install_XBMC_on_your_Apple_TV
