Featured Sound Manager 2.0What's New in Sound Manager 2.0Sound Manager version 2 incorporates some great new improvements in setting times for the volume to change. Instead of being limited to only one or two times a day, now you can set as many "schedules" as you like for each volume setting. Not only that, but you can also specify for which days of the week the schedules are active. Change volume at certain times for the work week, for example, and other times for your events on the weekend. Version 2 also makes the notification volume stream available. This wasn't open to developers on the initial Android OS version, but with Android 1.5, also known as Cupcake, Google makes this open to developers. You can have different schedules for email and IM notifications, for example, than you have for the ringer volume. (Sound Manager Version 2 should be released soon through the Android Market. Look for it in the next week or two.) How to UseSlide your finger along any of the volume bars to change the volume. Use the Menu to switch screens to set vibration settings or toggle the ringmode. To treat the Notification volume as different than the Ringer volume, go to your home screen. Press Menu and choose Settings. Choose Sound & display from the menu. Then choose Ringer volume. Deselect the check box labeled "Use incoming call volume for notifications". Now the Ringer volume and Notification volume can be treated as completely separate volume settings in the Sound Manager. To set a schedule:
F.A.Q.Q. When I set the schedule, it changed by volume right away! A. Please state that in the form of a question. Q. Why did it change my current settings? A. When you set a schedule for a time of day earlier than the current time the schedule will be activated immediately and set volume settings. Q. What if I reboot my phone? Will the timers I set still work? A. They will reinstall upon startup. If you missed one of your timers, it should go off right when you start up. Q. How come when I change my Ringer volume it also had changes my Notification volume? A. By default, Android treats the Ringer and Notification sounds as one audio stream. When you change ringer, it automatically changes the notification volume. To change this, go to your home screen, press Menu and choose Settings. Choose Sound & display. Then choose Ringer volume. Deselect the check box labeled "Use incoming call volume for notifications". Now Sound Manager is able to treat the two volumes as completely separate. This can be extremely helpful if, like me, you want to turn down email and IM sounds (like at night, when you want to sleep) but want to keep the ringer volume up in case someone needs to call you. Q. I changed the ringer volume and then the notification and system volume also changed. What happened? A. This will only happen if you had the Ringmode set. For example, if the Ringmode is set to Silent the ringer, system, and notification volumes will be at 0. If you raise the ringer volume we know that you actually want to hear the phone ring, which won't happen if the Ringmode is still set at Silent. So we change the Ringmode to Normal, which means depending on your settings that it may ring and/or it may vibrate. Doing this returns your System Volume and Notification Volume to their previous values. Q. I had the window open when the volume changed, but the volume controls in the app didn't reflect the change. Why not? A. To reset the volume sliders, just exit out of the app and return. Q. I set my ringmode to 'Vibrate Only', but I returned later to see that it is set to 'Silent', why is that? A. The Vibrate Settings and the Ringmode Toggle can interfere with each other sometimes. If you set the ringmode to 'Vibrate Only', but then went and switched the Ringer Vibration Setting to 'Vibration Off', then the ringmode you chose is no longer valid and should actually be 'Silent'. Q. Why have my schedules not triggered since I updated? A. After an update the Operating System may disable the schedules that were in place. A reboot of the phone will quickly reenable them. Q. I muted my phone, but later the volume raised? What's going on? A. The Mute button is a great feature, but it doesn't supersede the timers you set for your volume controls. If you mute your phone, but a timer you set raises the volume, then the volume will be raised. Q. Help! I created a shortcut to my mute activity, but the shortcut does nothing! A. The shortcut doesn't display anything, but it does toggle your mute status. If you press it once, it mutes your phone. If you press it a second time, the volume levels are returned to what they were when you muted the phone (even if you've changed the volume in the meantime). Q. How can I turn off the camera shutter sound? A. The camera shutter sound seems to be controlled by the System Volume. Turn down that volume and the camera shutter should be silent. |
I'm from Japan.Using HT-03A. I'd like to Camera Shutter sound off.Is this app doesn't support it?If it doesn't,I wish to add a function. Is it difficult? Sorry to My English is not well.
When will Version 2.0 be released? I love Version 1, but I am anxious to have the ability to set schedules based on day of the week. That will be AWESOME!
I edited the page to answer both comments. The Camera Shutter sound should be controlled by the System Volume. Turn that setting down and the shutter sound should be off. Version 2 should be out soon, hopefully in less than a week. We're anxious to get it out, too! I've been wanting these features since I first had the idea of this app.
Please add google calendar sync as a subscription thingy or wat not on my google calendars kthxbai
Any plans for a widget like the one in AudioManager??
Any chance of further integration with the phone's settings/features? I mean when the schedule turns the volume on everything down, in particular, though, the System volume, Ringtone volume, and Notification volume but vibrate on it will be recognized by the phone as Silent mode with Vibration. I also noticed that within the Sound Manager when the volumes are at 0 the ringmode toggle isn't aware that it should now basically be at Vibrate Only. As it stands currently the settings are applied so that the phone vibrates only with no sound, but it is not displayed in terms of the vibration notification icon or the dimmed features that utilize system volume, ringtone volume, or notification volume in the Sound & display settings. I wonder if there is maybe a way to implement scheduling for the Ringmode toggling. That way I can create a schedule for it in addition to schedules for the other audio settings that aren't included in the change of ringmode, and/or go ahead and create the schedules for all of the volume settings including ringer volume/notif volume and one for the ringmode. Either would work.
I just switched to an Android phone 2 days ago, after using a WM phone for years. I had used a program I loved called PhoneAlarm?, and was really missing it. Thank you so much for this!
For the life of me - I can't figure out how to make this just ring or just vibrate. It seems that vibrate is either always on, or always off. How do I set an SMS to only ring on "may ring or vibrate" and only vibrate when set to vibrate? Thanks.
hi! i really miss the "ring once" setting in my previous phone. any chance that this feature will be implemented?
I'd really like to differentiate between e-mails and text messages. I receive hundreds of e-mails a day and really don't need the notification sound. My text messages are the urgent messages and I would like to know when I receive (like my old MS Mobile). Any ideas?
You can set your email notification sound to 'silent', which should leave other notifications enabled.
There is only one notification sound option in the app. Should I be looking in another area?
Got it - turn off that the e-mails are part of the notification process. This works, but it's unfortunate that you don't see your e-mail status without opening that app.
The notification schedule works great for texts but does not silence my emails. Other than using the droids email settings can I silence email notifications with sound manager
I'd love a button to test the volume from within the app.
I have been trying to find an application that will automatically silence the email notifications only. I want to hear all notifications during the day, but only text notifications at night (that is how I'm paged when on-call). I've been manually changing the email alerts to silent at night, but I sometimes forget. I'm starting to think this is a limitation of the OS. Any ideas?
I have a samsung moment and want to know how I can extend the duration of the vibrate or make it more intense?....When on vibrate and in my pocket I do not always feel it and often miss calls.
Excellent app!
Scheduled volume changes should check to see if MUTE is toggled on before increasing the volume.
The schedule should be an everyday scheduling of the volume, and the mute should be a manual override type toggle. When its toggled off, the schedule would resume. This would then operate like a programmable thermostat.
All the volume apps including this one seem to have a slider for "system volume". However they don't explain what it is, and the text "system volume" isn't found in the Nexus One manual. Can someone tell me what this is controlling?
Looks like a nice app, BTW. I set it up tonite and am looking forward to seeing it control the volume by the schedule.
Question: If my phone is set to viabrate and silent, Can the phone viabrate with a calender alert? The alert light is no good if you are not actually looking at your phone. I have the same questions regarding a text message alert when the phone is set to silent and viabrate. I have missed appointment and such, due to the fact that I didnt get the viabrate reminder. I need the phone on silent for my job. Any Ideas?
As you may know the earpiece and speaker volume on the nexus 1 are very low - unusable in many situations. It has come to my attention that there is a way to make them louder but it involves rooting the phone and messing around with the system settings for the speaker, thereby voiding the warranty. What are the chances you could address this through your app? In a way that wouldn't void the warranty yet would still access the potential volume of the speaker and ear piece which for some reason has been set low by HTC?
Settings seem to work except the vibrate. At work I have the ringer silent, in-call silent (whatever that is) and notifications silent but vibrate...only it won't vibrate...why?
Any plans to add a single setting for all volumes, ie: a master slider, so I can easily set volumes to "all on" or "all off" at a certain time, without having to make 6 schedules? This would also be awesome for changing volume, ie: if I decide I want all volumes at 25% currently I have to change all the schedules individually. Also, a settings profile would be awesome: set all volumes and save as "work time" then edit "work time" as a saved group of timers rather than search through all timer settings to find the ones that fire at 10am weekdays. Thanks! Love the app, aside from those
Perfect aside from those 2 features!
Would also be nice if there were some notification that a scheduled sound event happened, so we can tell settings had been updated
Im not sure why, but my active scheduled change to the Ringer Volume (10am, Mon - Fri: volume_0% vibrate_on) does not appear to work. I tend to find this out the hard way, by receiving a call in my quiet office. If I hold down on the schedule and click Apply Settings on the pop up menu, the ringer is silenced. Im using Sound Manager v2.0 on a Sprint HTC Hero v1.5 and would appreciate if anybody can offer some help.
What does 'system settings' mean ? It has its own slider, but what dies it control?
I just downloaded the app and can not get it to work properly. I have a Motorola Droid. I went to Settings>Sound&Display>Ringer Volume AND UNCHECKED the box "Use incoming call volume for Notifications." I then went into Sound Manager and went to Menu>Vibrate Settings. I set both the 'Ringer Settings' and Notification Settings' to "Vibrate Whenever Possible." I then used the toggle on the right side of my Droid to set the volume to "Vibrate." HOWEVER, it still refuses to vibrate whenever I get a notification.
Is anyone else still having this problem? I just want to have my phone vibrate for every notification when the phone itself is set to "vibrate." Please help me or send me an email.

I like the vibrate setting "Vibrate only when Silent", but this setting seems to keep un-setting itself?
I would like to know why when I put my phone on vibrate and the sound manager is set to vibrate, when I receive a text message it doesn't vibrate only when I get a call or email. I've reported and done a factory reset but with no luck.
i want to silence the email and message notifications between the hours of 10pm and 8am every day. How do i set this up?
Thank you for this app! My HTC Incredible was not vibrating for notifications, but sound manager fixed the problem:)
I got this application because my Droid always vibrated when it rang. Now my Droid never vibrates at all. I dont have any schedules on the app. How do I fix it so my phone vibrates when I have it set to vibrate by pressing the volume buttons on my phone?
I have scheduled my notification to mute at night and max the volume in the morning but I open the app at 2:00 pm and the notification sound is still mute and when I click on the schedule button the bar mazes the sound immediately I also checked my advanced task killer it does not show on the running list so I could ignore it. Please help
I love the app and it works great on my Hero. Only one feature missing as far as I am concerned. There needs to be a way to backup the schedules! Between having a failed OS update and now testing ROMs I hate having to set up all the schedules again. I have over 30. I looked in the code and noticed you are using the sql database. Otherwise I would have just copied the settings file or something.
Any possibility of having this functionality added? If I had a clue about java I would offer to help. As it is, I wouldn't be much help.
Thanks!!
Just got the app. Overall it does what I want. One suggestion that would greatly improve its usefulness at least for me would be for the shortcut mute and ringer that the settings actually show clearly on those widgets (on/vibrate/silent). I hate relying on the notification bar. Those symbols are so small and don't bring enough attention to the current settings. There are other sound apps that do this, but I am concerned about compatibility issues with your app and would prefer to use your shortcuts. Regards, Donald
Can anyone tell me if System Volume is a "Master Volume" for everything or not, including alarms and ringer/notifications?
I want to set my ringer/notifications to be off at certain times (like in work and at night) but alarms to always be on loud. Does System Volume do this or do I have to set the ringer/notifications separate?
Many thanks for answering both questions, Andy.
HTC Aria: love app when schedule triggers. I find it doesn't more than it does. I have a task manager but have sound manager on the ignore list. Also the ability to set all sound by one time would be handy. Another thought would be widget control to trigger the time schedule to refresh and or notify last time a scheduled profile was triggered. Thanks for your efforts.
First of all, thank you so much for this incredibly usefly App! I have one question--is there any way to also control the volume for incoming text message notifications? I set my schedules to turn the notification volume down to zero overnight, but I almost had a heart attack when the robotic "DROID!" noise woke me up several times.
I tried to create a shortcut to the mute function, and it said that it successfully created it, but I can't find this shortcut anywhere. Where does it put the shortcut?
Where does it put the shortcuts?
Droid Incredible; schedule function only works when I manually go into each schedule and click "apply settings". Am I doing something wrong?
I have been using bthis for about a month with no problems - except for where I either set the ringer too early, and a call or notification awoke my wife, or I did not set a schedule for a function.
I guess I do have a question/problem. That is that the app overrides the physical sound on/off switch. Is there a setting to reverse this?
I can't get it to vibrate when I get a text message. Please tell me exactly what to do because I am beyond frustrated with this.
Any possibility to make the phone change volume settings when connecting to a bluetooth car system? Get used with it with Nokia, it was great. thanks!
Great app thx :) pls add lunch by holding search button
if sound levels are changed outside of this app, and Sound Manager is running, when you go back into Sound Manager, the levels are incorrect. I get around this by selecting mute and then unmute, but the app should use 'onResume' and 'onRestart' to refresh the display to accurately show the sound levels.

In the FAQ there are questions, but no answers. How do I get them?
When I have a meeting,I'd like to set temporanely silent. Do you think the app could become a widget that shows the state, and if selected,it makes you choose between change state, switch temporanely in silent mode (and ask how many minutes) or show the app?
Please help me... I use 2.0 and when I set all to off when I go to bed and on in the morning at 6 fm so after this time all is still off. What is wrong. Jensen Denmark
Do you answer questions?
I have two schedules - notification sound to be off at night and then another to come back on in the morning. For the night schedule, I unchecked vibrate, but it vibrates anyway. Is this an issue, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.
Now That the time change has happened the. Schedule is off by 1 hour. Why would the schedule show the correct time but the sound changes an hour early.
I have the same problem. After the time change, Sound Manager is an hour off.
Is there a way to turn off all sound, except the alarm, when I go to sleep?
I have ringer scheduled on at 7am, off at 10pm. If I reboot the phone at 5am, the ringer should be off, but it's on. I have to schedule it off at 12am to make it work. When the current time at startup is before the first schedule, the settings should follow the previous schedule that would have applied.
I'm away from my usual timezone, if that makes any difference.

My feedback is the same as http://code.google.com/u/@WRNQQVRXAhNDXwZ%2F/ on March 4, 2010.
Often, I need my phone on vibrate during work, but need to get calendar reminders. They do not seem to vibrate.
Has any one figured this out?
After i have installed sound manager, the sound for display lock and selection on the screen doesn't work no more. Any soggestion?
marcogh, Nothing in Sound Manager should have changed those sounds specifically. I think the System Volume controls those sounds. If the system volume is turned up, I would check the settings in your Android OS as I think your phone probably has those settings turned off.
Just installed -- nice job! One thing I noticed is that schedules seem to display in the order in which they were created, but it might be nice to allow the user to reorder them or sort by time of day. By the way, I noticed there is no paid version, so I might just have to buy one of your other apps!
Great app, but would be better if mute overrides the schedule until un-muted, or have that as an option. Could be embarrassing if you think it's muted, but sched changes it!
This seems like a great program but maybe I'm missing something I see the start time but I don't see the end time. Therefore I don't know how long the schedule last. I was thinking that this program would have a start time when the program started and an time when the program started. Any help greatly appreciated
The schedule will change the volume at the "Start Time". If you want an "End Time", set another schedule to change the volume at a different time. This way, Sound Manager is more configurable to multiple changes throughout the day, and doesn't set the volume back to what may now be an inappropriate volume at the "End Time".
See the market for Sound Manager v2 (Android 2.2 and up). Where many of these minor but very helpful changes have been incorporated.
Please add an export/backup and import/restore to sd card feature.
thanks
I am trying to create a new schedule. I am selecting the menu when in the app, but the only selections are mute, faqs toggle and one other thin, but not set schedule. Is there another menu that I am unaware of?
There should be a "Schedules" button next to each volume. Use that button, then use the menu from the next screen.
Love the app, but I see no point whatsoever in the "More Volumes" button. Just put them on the same page with the rest of the volume controls and make it scrollable. In fact, just put ALL the settings on the same page and use sub headings.
Something like so:
Volume Settings //Clicking on a ▼ next to an entry would open the scheduling interface for that entry. System ▼ ------|- //That is supposed to be a slider. Ringer ▼ ---|---- Notification ▼ --|----- Media ▼ -----|-- Alarm ▼ ------|- In-Call ▼ ----|--- ------------------------------ Set Ringer Mode () Ring & Vibrate () Vibrate only () Silent ------------------------------ Vibration Settings Vibrate on Incoming Call () Always () Only in Silent mode () Only when NOT in Silent mode //Yes, my Android has this option. Not sure about others. () Never Vibrate on Notification () Always () Only in Silent mode () Only when NOT in Silent mode //Not sure if this setting extends to notifications or not. () NeverNotice that I've changed some of the wording in order to more closely match the wording Android uses by default. This will help cut down on user confusion.
In this way, the ONLY thing that would need to be accessed by actually pressing the phones "Menu" button while in the Sound Manager app would be; "Mute All", "Tutorial" and Apply ALL Schedules".
This would also eliminate the need for the two Home Screen shortcuts users can create by simply putting the ENTIRE Sound Manager app on a Home Screen. Then, all a user need do is, open the app and scroll to the desired setting.
I'd be willing to mock up some screen shots of the UI proposed above if you like.
I'd also be willing to rewrite your tutorial as it's got a few typos and is very confusing to read, let alone comprehend. (It was for me, at least).
Actually, now that I think about it, the tutorial could be trimmed drastically since the above UI would be MUCH more intuitive...
I can be contacted at: s3ntyn3l at gmail dot com
I'll take your suggestions under advisement. Most of the reason for having separate screens is because scrolling on a page like this can be unintuitive, but worse, the phone can misdirect a touch to a scroll and a touch to change the volume slider. I've gotten feedback about how difficult it was to scroll and not mess up the volumes when all the volumes were on the same screen. It was due to that feedback that I made separate screens for them.
Hello! I just downloaded this app as my HTC Incredible 2 is not vibrating when I set it to vibrate for calls. However, I tried a bunch of different settings and still can't seem to get it to vibrate. I'm hoping that I am just not clear on how to get this to work (rather than this solution doesn't work). Any help would be appreciated. That's all I'm looking for is to be able to set my phone to vibrate for incoming calls as needed (e.g., in meetings). Any help is greatly appreciated!
The program turns of the ringsignal for the night! But in the morning it does not turn it ön again! Why?
You would have to make a specific schedule for the morning to turn it back up. The "schedule" represents a volume change at a single time.
I have an HTC Incredible 2 and love the functionality of Sound Manager (thanks also for keeping it free!). I only noticed one small glitch--when I set the system volume slider (to half for example), then utilize the smart dial feature to make a phone call, the system volume will automatically reset to 100%. This happens regardless of whether the audible touch tones are turned on or off. Is this a bug or something I can fix on my end?
You say above : "You can set your email notification sound to 'silent', which should leave other notifications enabled." How? I do not see "email notification" anywhere in your app, I just see "notification". In your FAQ's you need to tell us what controls what. What is "media"? What does "notification" control? Ringer I get, but I don't see how to control text notification separate from email notification. Please define these terms clearly in your FAQ. How do I turn off email notification and turn on text notification, for example?
In order to set your email notification sound to silent you have to actually go into your email app and see if it has settings for the notifications it sends out. Sound Manager cannot treat email vs other notifications differently.
The volume streams available in Sound Manager are the ones that the Android OS exposes to developers. Media controls things like playing your music or watching a video. Notification controls pretty much anything that goes in your notifications (email, text messages, individual app notifications). Sound Manager gives you control over the master notification volume. If an individual app gives you control to silence its own notications, for example, then that apps notifications would be silent regardless of what you set here.
It would be nice if you could allow certain override conditions. For example if i had the phone muted but a specific person or people on my contact list called, the phone would ring anyway. Or aimilarly make sms messages come theough and / or with a specific sound for individual contacts.
I LOVE this App. No more lost sleep from email notifications in the middle of f the night. It's true... Happy wife, happy life!
How to do export settings?
He seems to be a great app, does it also have a setting for "increasing volume" for Ringtone oder alarm? greetz Seb
I agree with a previous post...when I manually mute my phone, the app should honor that and when I manually unmute the phone. It can go to the settings under the current schedule. I've muted my phone only to have it ring in The middle of a meeting! This was quite embarrassing.
How about a slightly different mute method? I would like to be able to mute the phone for .5 - 1 - 1.5 - 2 hours by just hitting a button 1,2,3 or 4 times. Mostly I would like this for my wife's phone, as she goes to a movie, and remembers to turn it down, but forgets to turn it back on again. Currently I have a schedule turning everything up each morning, but if she goes to something in the afternoon, I can't reach her in the late afternoon, early evening.
Saludos.
Is there any hope of associating volumes with outlook exchange meeting schedule. For example, I had a WM app that would mute whenever I had a meeting scheduled then return to normal when the meeting was scheduled to end.
