Themes do not apply until app is restarted

What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. Enter preferences 2. Select Appearance 3. Select a different theme 4. Exit preferences

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? The theme should take effect immediately, but one has to exit the activity and restart it for the theme change to go into effect.
