I got the connection perfectly but for some reason despite the output debugger from the emulator showing correct inputs (coordinates) on the actual UI it shows wrong places.
For example, I try clicking the bottom left or middle or bottom right or really anywhere but the touch only show up at the top right....
it's like as iff the emulator isn't inputing the signals in correctly.

I have exactly the same issue. Has anyone found a solution? Considering that the primary purpose of this device is still to make call (although I'd probably question my own assertion here), the fact that the microphone hardly works is a significant issue.
I would almost be tempted to return it as defective. I'd like to give bluetooth a shot to see if it's any better.
Has anyone found a solution like a custom app that can adjust sensitivity?

It is not an bluetooth issue according to a friend of mine who uses his Nexus 4 with 2 different bluetooth headsets.
lu...@gmail.com <lu...@gmail.com> #9
This is very likely related to https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42978 - basically, the Nexus 4 doesn't seem to implement automatic microphone gain control at all.
Some applications support manually adjusting the microphone gain, which solves the problem, so the hardware seems to work correctly. Also, it seems to work better for cellular phone calls - maybe there is some automatic gain control in the baseband?
Please, fix this!

I dont use my earphones mic for VOIP calls, i use it for regular calls, in iphone i can let the ear phones mic hang somewhere far away from mouth and still have a perfect conversation.
whereas with Nexus 4 i have to keep the mic close to my mouth.. very close..

All the nexus 4 devices have this issue, Even the replacement ones.. They did not fix this issue yet
Please note that once u recieve the replacement, the hold on the credit card wont go for more than 15 days after the device is returned.
i am still paying interest for the hold.

I have the same problem as stated above. Whenever I connect apple in ear headphones, the other person can not even listen what I'm saying over the call, unless I shout.I found an app smartphone voice recorder which has microphone adjustment which has device auto gain calibration AGC which seems to fix the problem for a while until i restart the phone or some other app takes the control and I'm eagerly waiting for 4.2.2 to fix this issue. But it doesn't have any change log maintained that this defect has been addressed. Google please address this issue asap.

Same issue with rob6ra. It happens even with device own mic when headphones are plugged in. I am on 4.2.2 I am new to the discussion group, so I really do not how we can take this further to Google. I would very much appreciate if somebody tells me how we can do this. Even if this is a hardware issue there is no point to discuss with LG (to my opinion) as our exchange transaction is with Google, at lest for those of us who bought the phone directly from Google Play

gu...@gmail.com <gu...@gmail.com> #22
there's no hardware issue, it only happens on regular voicecall, if you try other apps like magic jack, skype, viber etc.. you will note that mic works great, it's just regular voice call
and i think is related to noise reduction values because on internet calls the other persons hears everything even a little sound with my hand, you could imagine how annoying are my conversations with my girlfriend because we both have nexus 4 :( our solution was to use magicjack and skype

GS3 LTE (i9305)- moved from stock 4.1.2 to ROM4.2.2 and 2 problems have appeared:
1. headphone mic gain is horrible (as discussed by everyone in this thread), this was not an issue on the stock 4.1.1 and the upgrade to 4.1.2; i noticed this immediately after uprading to LiquidSmooth 4.2.2
2. bluetooth - as discussed in threadhttp://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632 ; and it is clear this problem is related to sample rate and bit pool
Would like to see some android updates to address these 2 issues. Its clear that the issue SHOULD be fixable, as the coders from Samsung had obviously fixed it with their stock 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. I'm not keen on reverting back to the stock flavour but am thinking that i have no choice as these 2 issues are deal breakers.

The thing is, in a loud environment - like a car driving 160km/h (100mph) -
people have no problem understanding me. It is in quiet environments that the microphone sensitivity is way too low on the headset.

I just got a Nexus 4. I install a sound meter app and the sound volume of my headset mic is 20 to 25 db lower than the phone mic that is huge. I don't believe this is hardware issue.

I installed Hi-Q MP3 REC (lite) app then I recorded with the phone mic and the headset mic and I can hear what people that I call complain about the volume difference is huge.
I then raise the recording volume +20db in the mentioned app and the volume increased. There is some amplification noise present but the headset mic volume is only 5 to 10 db less than the phone mic. I think this should be a coding issue. Surprise the LG/Google teams haven't posted any clear response like a bug tracking ticket to this problem.

Nothing works, not the factory reset or reflashing 4.2.(0-1-2), I tried Paranoid Android and it sounds a little bit better (just a bit), also tried fauxsound, it amp the built in Mic but the headset Mic gain amplifier don't work in the app or at least doesn't amplified my headset Mic.

I recently bought nexus 4(android 4.2.2, build JDQ39). I too notice low mic volume issue. What a disappointment when I call to my mom to tell about my new nexus phone and she is shouting that my voice is very very low, and she said "what a junk phone you bought" . I see this issue when I put on loud speaker ON, while answering calls. No issues when i don't put ON the speaker. Its a great disappointment to nexus lovers who usually attend calls with loud speaker. And its a big shame on GOOGLE or LG being a big companies not addressing this basic & silly & irritating issue for so long time.

I have tested this with four separate earbuds, one of which are a brand new backup that I did not regularly use previously. All of these record audio just fine when using my blackberry, therefore the problem must be with the phone.
The phone's microphone works fine when nothing is plugged in. It will capture my voice at around 65-70 dB at various distances. However, when I plug in earbuds, the microphone will only capture my voice at around 25-30 dB at a normal distance, and still only at around 35-40 dB when I hold the mic right up to my lips. Neither of which are enough for the other party to hear me properly.
I first tested this using the phone before installing any other apps or changing around the settings. Then I tested it further with the apps Skype, Sound Meter and Smart Voice Recorder.
I had this issue with my first phone, which I returned because it had another defect, and my replacement phone has the same issue with capturing audio from the mic on the earbuds.

So... here is the weird thing, with Munitio Billet I got 70+ dB and with Urban Ears got 26+ :S
Hope it stays that way!

#68 I tried my wife's iPhone 5 headphones this weekend and all the low mic issues were gone. I did some research and found out the Nexus 4 is only compatible with CTIA headsets. To find out if your headset is CTIA look at the rings on the jack and if they are grey then you are good. If they are black or any other color it is OMAP and incompatible. None of them works, i must put the mic 3cm from my mouth and speak loud to be listened clearly.
Using the phone without headphones, i have no problem at all. Using Skype, i have no problem neither.

This is the research i did last weekend. Got a brand new NExus 4 device, purchased both CTIA head set and OMTP..
There is a subtle difference of + 9 Db gain in CTIA head set vs OMTP (iphone mic headsets)
Please find the snapshots attached..
Also i did the same test with 2 nexus 4 devices , one connected to CTIA and other OMTP, same results were found..
Still with + 9db gain its low for the other person to hear, GOOGLE has to still fix the issue by software update..
For a simple fix , to increase the mic gain during regular phone calls, install the app invoice recorder and there is a setting for external mic gain, it works for me

I have the same problem on my nexus 4 with or without headset. Any fix available so far?
zh...@gmail.com <zh...@gmail.com> #91
Nexus 4 and 4.2.2.
The same headset works perfectly on my HTC phone but on the nexus 4 the other party could hardly hear me.
This is also application dependent. With Skype the problem is minimal, with phone call and some other apps nobody can hear me.

Hi, guys,
I got my Nexus 4 a couple of days ago and discovered the same problem - people could hear me when I used the headset that worked perfectly with my Galaxy Nexus.
I went around a few wireless accessories stores this morning and managed to find a headset that works perfectly with my Nexus 4 (phone calls and all).
I don't know the exact model number, but judging by pictures I found online it is HTC 36H00824-06M.
I was also told that some Sony headsets work well with Nexus 4 too.
There is also a headset Google sells on Google Play specially on Google Play, although I did not try it.
It seems like Nexus 4 is simply incompatible with most generic/Samsung headsets.
Cheers.

Hey guys I've tested iphone, munito and a bunch of skullcandy headhpones. They all worked. When I was a tad bit low on the headphone jacked i fixed that by adding headset gain with the franco.kernel app. You will need the paided version.
It can be found in:
Left Slide out bar > Custom Kernel Settings > Headset gain.
I recommend starting with 2

OK, finally I got N4 original Headset, I tested them along with cheap EHS60 and original Samsung EHS60, the best are the original Nexus 4 Headset, the original Nexus 4 dont resolve the problem but you can get 90% of voice calls can hear you:

Guys, can I point out. even if you aren't using an earphones mic, and you are using the handset's in conjunction with normal earphones, the mic is ridiculously quiet. you have to shout at the handset for anyone to hear you.
buying different accessories isn't the answer. There are use cases where they arent applicable. The issue just needs fixing.
Please can someone post before and after results of the Franco Kernel tweak as others have requested?

@92: You're completely right. I borrowed an identical headset from a friend (also not sure about the exact model, but it seems the one you refer to is spot on), and people I called said they could hear me way better now.
I've already ordered 36H00824-03M model (which is a black version of 36H00824-06M) on the internet. When I test it, I'll confirm (hopefully) that it is the one.

Nexus 5 has the same issue! The microphone sensitivity on the headset is too low. Its hard to hear for other person during the call.
sa...@gmail.com <sa...@gmail.com> #109
Same with my Nexus 5. If there has been no official statement on the nexus 4, then I don't think there will be about the G5. I guess it's just a matter of getting just the right G5/G4 with just the right headphones. sigh, wtf, LG and google.

I'v returned my N5. I use skype and GrooveIP too much. Ug, I really wanted to keep the N5. Gonna try to get a Dev edition MotoX. I tested that in the store and I know for certain it works fine with my headsets.

Hi!
If your phone is rooted, you can modify the headset microphone volume in the file /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml (see below).
I've done that on my Nexus 4 and it's working great.
If your phone is not rooted, I've published a patch on android source :https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/73711/
Hopefully someone at Google will see it and merge it for the next release => vote/comment it so that it gets attention!
/system/etc/mixer_paths.xml - before modification
=================================================
<path name="headset-mic">
<path name="adc2" />
<ctl name="ADC2 Volume" value="2" />
</path>
/system/etc/mixer_paths.xml - after modification

<path name="headset-mic">
<path name="adc2" />
<ctl name="ADC2 Volume" value="2" />
<ctl name="DEC8 Volume" value="99" />
</path>
