Galaxy Nexus randomly reboots when sometimes in game sometimes when it's idle ... it's full stock android 4.2 just rooted that's all and i never face this issue with any previews version of android before the 4.2

I'm having this issue as well. The phone reboots once or twice a day, and there doesn't seem to be anything specific that causes it. Most commonly reboots while at idle with screen off.

Having this issue as well. It's not a full hard reboot back to the "Google" white boot logo, just a soft reboot that starts with the colored X boot animation. I wanted to blame it on HD widgets and homescreen widgets as it also:

1. Happened on my nexus 7 after I added a weather homescreen widget
2. Happened while updating HD widgets.

These could be just coincidence

But it did happen on my N7 so I doubt it's a hardware problem.

#3 jono...@gmail.com
I meant lock screen widgets not home screen.

I'm having the same issue on my 32G Nexus 7 and my son is having the same issue on his 8G Nexus 7. The reboots happen randomly. My son reports getting them when he is watching YouTube videos. It also happened once when he was playing Minecraft. The couple of times it happened with me was when I was trying to start an app. One time it was starting Riptide, another was starting Bard's Tale. I cannot consistently reproduce it though.

Same Problem on galaxyNexus with the OTG and AOSP Version.

#6 Andreas.Ronacher
Same on my GNex and Nexus 7. Not reproducable. Most of the time in IDLE. INtersting is that it´s the softreboot because after this reboot SIM PIN have not to be filled in again

same Problem on my GNx since update to 4.2.
Phone is only rooted.

I´ll hope they´ll fix this ASAP

Same problem with my galaxy nexus on stock android 4.2. Random reboots in idle and while I'm doing something on my phone. Did a factory reset, but didn't fix it.

#12 filipe...@gmail.com
I return to the 4.1.2 version, and for now, it's stable again.

This problem is very annoying, please Google, see this thread and fix ASAP, i want to update my GNEX!!!

Same problem as in comment #2 here. Also with HD widgets. On Galaxy Nexus (GSM) as well as on the Nexus 7 3G. The N7 also reboots reproducibly when uninstalling or updating HD widgets.

The reboots are caused by uncaught runtime exceptions in the ActivityManagerService (see attachment; I had two reboots today).

Yes, this bug forced me to go back to 4.1.2 on my Nexus 7 and stay on 4.1.2 on my Galaxy Nexus. The logs show the very same Fatal exceptions as mentioned in comment 13 and the even more detailed logs shown in https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40140

#15 hdwidget...@cloud.tv
Hey, Radley from HD Widgets here. We asked Google about these crashes and they're confident it's not our app. We did discover another critical bug early on, so it's possible there's more. Hard to say since we're not that deeply involved.

If you guys are having any problems with HD Widgets, please ping us using the Feedback button - it will send device specs along with your email. Otherwise ping us via hi@cloud.tv.
Nov 22, 2012
#16 th3.d3vi...@gmail.com
@Radley no it's not HD Widgets that causing this because that issue was present before even you release the version that support Android 4.2 lock screen widgets .. the reboot issue is a bug in the core of Android and it's effecting the Galaxy Nexus , Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 which leaves us with Nexus 4 that's not effected by this

I am getting the same problem, random re- boots, faster battery drain etc, about time Google posted acknowledgment of these issues and gave us an idea of when a patch will be pushed out to devices.

I've re-flashed the JOP40C takju factory image on my Galaxy Nexus (from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#takjujop40c ) and everything have been OK for 10 hours so far (I used to get much more frequent reboots since applying the 4.2 OTA upgrade).

Same issue with my Galaxy Nexus on 4.2. After reboot I lose 3G data, so I have to manually reboot afterwards in order to restore data.

(My phone is a Virgin Canada GNex which I converted to takju on 4.1.1. It's unlocked but not rooted. It received 4.2 OTA.)
Nov 23, 2012
#20 robert.m...@gmail.com
Have the exact same problem. My Nx10 is rebooting randomly as is my Gnex. The latter loses 3G after reboot and only a manual reboot can fix it.
My Nx10 however loses wifi for a short period after the reboot.
Both running stock 4.2.

#21 ssuk1...@gmail.com
I've been having this issue on both my 8GB Nexus 7 and my Yakju/GSM Galaxy Nexus since the 4.2 (JOP40C) update. Happens seemingly randomly for both devices, the Nexus 7 is more prone to crashing and waking itself from sleep (turning the screen on), has not yet happened to reboot while using it.

The Galaxy Nexus on the other hand crashes when the phone is idle AND when in use, the device only seems to restart when idle after I attempt to wake the device from sleep, which it doesn't respond and eventually shows the "X" start up animation. If the device is in use, it just black-screens and shows the "X" animation.

It is hit-or-miss if I loose 3G data after a crash, the most recent has made me lose 3G, previous reboots have not. A reboot is required to gain data back. It might be interesting to note as well that the "Data usage" screen shows NO data after a crash and losing 3G connectivity, the data returns after a reboot of the device.

Obviously, this has never happened before the update although I have instances in the past, including the day-of update to 4.2, where my Galaxy Nexus has woken up, vibrated once or twice in quick succession and then asked me where it can upload files, one of them is an error report which I have attached the latest of said files to this issue. I am not sure if they are connected as I have had a similar thing happen on 4.0.4 (IMM76I). I can provide older logs if they prove of any worth.

Christopher: I strongly recommend against posting the entire bugreport file publicly! You don't know what private data apps may have logged in there.

The crash log shows that you're using battery widget -- so it seems that all widgets (and not just HD Widgets or other lock screen widgets) cause NPEs during parceling, thus bringing down the ActivityManager...

Let's hope for a 4.2.1 release by Google soon (ideally before December ;-)).

#23 andreiVi...@gmail.com
My Galaxy Nexus also reboots randomly 3 or 4 times a day on Android 4.2 (no root)
Nov 23, 2012
#25 williams...@gmail.com
I have also had random reboots after the 4.2 update and have even watched the reboot in progress. However the GNex apparently does not record these instances as reboots since uptime is not changed to reflect the last unexpected occurrence.
Nov 23, 2012
#26 wyz...@gmail.com
My Nexus 7 has also been rebooting since the update.
Nov 23, 2012
#27 Michael....@gmail.com
Agreed, my GNex reboots 2-3 times per day. Also, after automatic rebooting I loose wireless services abilities and I have to switch it off and on again to get normal wireless services back. What a pain, all started after upgrading to 4.2.
Nov 24, 2012
#28 williams...@gmail.com
Same here, but with cellular -- sometimes switching back and forth from airplane mode fixes the problem.
Nov 24, 2012
#29 dsal...@gmail.com
also at my gnex yakju, no root, stock android 4.2, happens the same thing. i did a factory reset and for 3 days no random reboots but from last night it rebooted one time. After the reboot no 3g internet connection and in the past, before the factory reset, also no wifi connection but with 3g connection...... Strange things!!!!
Nov 24, 2012
#30 danl...@gmail.com
Random reboots also on my nexus 4.
Nov 24, 2012
#31 michaelp...@gmail.com
Random reboots on my Nexus 10. Very annoying.
Nov 24, 2012
#32 garnet...@gmail.com
Same thing happens to my yakju galaxy nexus.
Stock of 4.0.4 when I bought it was stable.
OTA to 4.1.2 then random reboots start to emerge. flashed official image as a whole seemingly solved the problem. I didn't stay at the image for long.
OTA to 4.2 again brought up reboots. flashed official image, once again, seemingly solved the problem though I'm not confident about this, it's been only a few days since.
In the past 2 days when I wake up in the morning checking uptime was the first thing I do... unfortunately it showed me less than 7 hours both times.. well, if it only reboots in the mid-night.. it's not a big problem :)
Nov 25, 2012
#33 jjvie...@gmail.com
Random soft reboots on my GNEX too.
Nov 25, 2012
#34 niemine...@gmail.com
If you cant fix this annoying bug in a decent timeframe, can you at least provide us a simple way to downgrade to 4.1.2
Nov 25, 2012
#35 avu...@gmail.com
Workaround for me has been to remove all widgets from my home screens and disable WIFI optimizations. Not sure which helps the problem, but I've been surfing for hours on my Nexus 10 now, no problems yet. This would not have been possible before. I'll reenable after next update.
Nov 25, 2012
#36 avu...@gmail.com
OK, please excuse the noise. Crashed soon thereafter. *sigh*
Nov 25, 2012
#37 illana.s...@gmail.com
Just happened to me again on my galaxy nexus while just listening to google
music. This is a completely stock, non-rooted device. No hacks whatsoever...

I am not having any network errors related to the random reboots however.

I have network drops that happen independently of the random reboots which
can only be fixed by rebooting the phone. (airplane mode doesn't work)

Please make this top priority (rather than "medium"). I have a feeling this
is a lot more prevalent than what we are seeing reported here. The reason
being that these devices reboot so quickly that it is probably easy to
miss. And the frequency of reboots seems to vary a lot. I have only had two
reboots so far that I know of (but like I said I suspect the actual number
is higher). I have never had trouble with rebooting on my galaxy nexus
before this update.

4.2 is an awful update...please fix!

(Also my nexus 7 has not exhibited this behavior yet)
Nov 25, 2012
#38 ygor.oli...@gmail.com
My Galaxy Nexus is rebooting more than 5 times a day. No obvious reason. Crashes happen while using Play Music, Whatsapp, Chrome... even unlocking causes a reboot.
Nov 25, 2012
#39 arch.amr...@gmail.com
Same here, Happens randomly but I noticed that it happens sometimes when accessing Chrome. Please fix. I love Android and would never change OS :) Cheers

#40 dsal...@gmail.com
As other android users said before, I uninstalled HD widget app completly and for 24 hours so far no random reboots on gnex! I don't know if it's just luck but no restarts/reboots so far! And the battery duration is better because it seems that these reboots consume a lot of power...

#41 tie...@gmail.com
Confirmed this on stock Nexus 7.

my friends, it has been 4 days without reboots on 4.2. All I did was to uninstall the HD widgets! I have also sent an email to hd widgets but no answer till now... For my case, on Gnexus, the problems seems to have been the hd widgets... 4 days now!!!!

Verizon GN 4.1.1 JRO03O as well.

I opened Case #40602 because I didn't see this issue identified for Nexus 7 on 4.2.1 but I'm having the random reboot on my stock tablet but only since I upgraded to 4.2.1. Prior to that I had no issues. What tool can I use to capture the error? The screen goes dark and the next thing that appears is the X boot animation. I noticed it happened last night as I was backing out of a youtube video. will try to see if i can reproduce the issue.

I am facing the same issue with my Galaxy Nexus 16GB with stock firmware 4.2.1.
Facing since the 4.2 OTA update. Thought it would be corrected in 4.2.1, but its still the same. Infact, after upgrading to 4.2.1 the random reboots have increased a lot.

Uninstalled HD Widgets but no change.
Its apparently not effecting all devices. It doesn't occur on my Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 though.
Hope Google issues an update to this asap.

See duplicate issue on https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40140 where Jens has posted a temporary possible workaround:

* Disable the 'location' (locate automatically) features of apps (eg. HD Widgets)
* Disable Google's location provider

So far, this seems to work. At least, it seems to work for me as well on my GNex and N7 running 4.2.1. No more soft reboots since disabling these features

I also have this issue on my Nexus 10. It reboots while in idle a few times a day. It's a really bad bug. I'm going to try to disable all location based things for awhile and see if that works. Of course this means disabling Google Now but so be it.

Soft reboot every app is reopened after all Google tabs open.
Very annoying as I use it for rdp over HTTPS all authentications have to be re-done, but if reboot occurs twice in 10' I get locked out for 1 hour, security measure from IT.

i am seeing this on a stock/vanilla, non-rooted Nexus 7 after the 4.2/4.2.1 OTA upgrades as well. Dec 5, 2012
#97 bnajdrov...@gmail.com
It's good to see Google marking this as 'Future Release' bug fix, however it should be stressed that this is a pretty critical flaw, and arguably warrants this release sooner than later. I have had my Galaxy Nexus reboot randomly in middle of phone conversations, and other core use cases. The only work around is to disable location services. Doing so prevents the restarts, however since location awareness is quite integral to many Android services (including Google Now) this is not a viable solution.

I have radom reboots on my Nexus 7 without any App involved right away after the update. Even when idle with no app running it reboots itself. I can't reproduce a setting so the device does the reboot on purpose. Estimated number of reboots in 24 hours: 2-3 maybe more but not seen by me.

Rebooting itself is funny too, because it starts with showing the nexus-logo and not with the google-logo. It also boots a lot faster than normally starting procedure.

I have a GNex 16gb, Nexus 7 32gb, & the Nexus 10 just arrived yesterday. My GN reboots occasionally with the N7 doing so a couple of times daily. All have stock 4.2.1, non rooted. No sign of any issues yet with the N10. I can 100% guarantee this is not solely the cause of HD widgets. I love settings based widgets on my home screen as I'm not terribly impressed with the drop down ones. On the GN I have a power strip widget (not the stock one), silent toggle widget from diff dev & a WiFi hotspot widget from a diff Dev. Also use Beautiful Widgets not HD. The N7 also has the power strip widget & BW. The N10 has the same power widget toggles & actually HD widgets & so far no issues but its been less than 48 hours with the N10. All 3 also have the same circle battery widget.

Both the GN & N7 ONLY had the issue after the 4.2.1 upgrade.

I'd also think its important to mention when this happens all settings related widgets (the toggles) go haywire. They will half work ... may or may not change the setting each is linked to but the widgets do not show the change of color, label, blink, etc nor will the battery widget update the percent any longer. This ONLY effects settings based widgets. All other widgets including HD & BW are fine. To get them back working, I have to perform another restart essentially causing two restarts each time.

Various settings based toggle widgets from different devs having the same problem at the same time ... NOT a coincidence. Only since 4.2.1 & a super annoying issue. Fingers crossed the N10 doesn't start doing the same thing.

Fix this Google!

Come on, how can this be a future release medium priority bug? The phone is almost unusable as you will more than probably have to type your PIN or decryption password for the phone to fully work. This bug is really critical for phones as it completely disables the ability to receive calls if you don't watch your phone when it's rebooting.
We are not talking about the color issue in the Nexus S or the missing December month, this reboot issue makes flagship android devices appear bad as it makes them unusable for day to day use (impossible to trust wake up rings or waiting for a phone call).

I have not had a spontaneous reboot since -7days now. It appears that the sync function in the Facebook app causes the reboot. I am still working on the root cause...

Give this a try. Since the version of the facebook app varies with what device you are using, this may not work for you.

After reading here, I just turned off location services, hopefully that will help. I've also read elsewhere that going to WiFi Advances settings and changing WiFi frequency to 5GHz or 2.4GHz instead of AUTO helps. I did that a few days ago and it does seem to help but not 100%

Really thought this would be a high prio for google but it seems they do not really care about their customers.
Right now the solution would be to turn off the location service, But then why the hell do I have an smartphone. Better of with a 10 bucks nokia then.

I bought this nexus 7 32gb tablet just 1 week ago and it immediately updated to v4.2.1 out of the box. i have witnessed at least 4 random reboots while using it. Once playing Angry Birds game, once reading a. pdf document in Adobe Reader an twice while browsing Android forums using Chrome and Firefox Beta. i've seen reports of this random reboot issue dated back from July 2012! Apparently Google does'nt care to treat this as a high priority issue to fix ASAP because here it is half a year later and still no fix even after releasing a couple more firmware releases. What are the developers doing aout tbis?

I am a java, c/c++ software developer myself but not an Android developer. I see a couple of posts earlier in tbis thread where some have posted their error logs which clue you into what caused the error. The part of the log that keys you totbe crash is this;

11-26 11:01:15.673 E/AndroidRuntime( 482): *** FATAL EXCEPTION IN SYSTEM PROCESS: ActivityManager 11-26 11:01:15.673 E/AndroidRuntime( 482): java.lang.NullPointerException 11-26 11:01:15.673 E/AndroidRuntime( 482): at android.os.Parcel.appendFrom(Parcel.java:428)

Apparently within those routines being called a Null value is being passed in to it when it expects a value. Google developers should trace back to that part of the routine and figure out under what conditions this could possibly happening. Then make sure that this pointer value or variable is never Null or wrap it in a try{} catch{} block to handle the exception gracefully and not cause a system crash or reboot. Okay?

Is this thread closed meaning Google thinks the random reboot issue is fixed?
This bug has been around and reported from the day the Nexus device(s) were released! Meaning and implying that this bug issue has been around in firmware releases before Jelly Bean v4.2. What is going on at google development dept? I thought they only hired cream of the crop workers. They apparently need a more capable developer to work this bug issue. It's een around for too long now without any fix.

I just received two nexus 4 16gb devices. Mine(4.2.1) has started to randomly reboot after two days of owning it. It will last about 30 seconds then reboots. I have tried to do the factory reset holding the power + minus button and do recovery. I get a little android on screen with his belly open and a red triangle with a exclamation point with a no command text and nothing happens but another reboot. I can’t get to the factory reset within the settings menu before it reboots. I am about to RMA the device since i don’t know what else i can do. My wifes(4.2) has not been updated yet, and i won’t because it does not have the reboot issue so far.

I am in the UK and 3 of us in the same office have issues with all of us using Galaxy Nexus phones and 2 using Nexus 7 tablets. We get a constant restart loop when we either enter or leave the basement where we connect to a WiFi router. I changed the router for a newer model but still have this issue. The phones and tablets overheat due to the constant restarting. If WiFi is turned off on the phone or tablet it does not happen but we need WiFi in an area with no 3g signal. GOOGLE FIX THIS ASAP! I called Google support who said they were aware of the problem the guy said n update fix would be out in 1 week, that was 2 months ago and still nothing! We had no issues before the 4.1.2 update and have all carried out factory resets and still have the issue even with stock apps.

since reboot is random and I cannot consistently reproduce it i cannot really tell that, but it seems the phone is more stable without SIM card inserted.

Hi All,

Not sure if this will work for you all since I get the reboots on 4.1.2 (Was skeptic on updating until the very last minute - then once i did, rebooted every 15-30 seconds), but as someone said above, before it has the chance to reboot - hold the power button and switch airplane mode on. This should stop the reboots to allow you time to copy your data to the computer (key word "should"). After saving whatever data you can, do a master reset (BEWARE: you will lose ALL data on your phone) by going to settings -> backup and reset -> factory data reset. Once again, I'm not sure if this will work for everyone with firmware beyond 4.1.2 but I assume erasing all data is better than having a brick for a phone or tablet. BTW, master resetting will erase all data but leave you on the latest firmware you installed.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

I have a new Nexus 4 since january and at the beginning it wasn't restarting (with the OS that was installed within it). Then a day, without updating nothing, I was on the phone with my dad and it restarted. I had the WiFi on so I thought it could be that and I switched it off. Then I called my dad again and the phone restarted again anyway.
After the OS 4.2.2 the phone started to restart more often and now it is restarting everytime: when it is in standy by, when I'm using the phone (by browsing menus, searching in the rubrica or whatever), when I'm on the phone, when I play games on it; to sum up, EVERYTIME!!! As soon as I input the PIN of the SIM, the phone brings back the application I was on before the restart, or anyway the screen of the thing I was doing before the restart. I tried to hard reset it yesterday and I didn't received any better behaviour: everything's the same!

Hi,
I'm facing random rebooting on my freshly flashed Galaxy Nexus, 16 GB, Europee version. Neither takju neither yakju (both 4.2.2 stock images) fixed the issue.
Reboot is not related to any app, it happens once a day, expecially at night.
I noticed another symptom: the screen sometime goes black for one second, then is back again.
Both symptoms started to happen on 4.2.2 from one day on, this let me think to some correlation to the battery life status..
Anyway, love this phone, but the bug si quite annoying!

Hi

I'm using the latest 4.2.2 (JDQ39) on my Nexus 7 32Gb and suffering from random reboots. Once every so often, these reboots don't end well (either boot loops or the tablet decides that I've encrypted my data and requires a password I don't have), and I am forced to do a factory reset to be able to use the tablet.

I've had to factory reset 6 or 7 times over the last weekend.

Galaxy Nexus (toroplus), stock 4.2.1 rom & kernel.

I disabled location services and uninstalled all third party lockscreen widgets, including the ICE (In Case of Emergency) lockscreen widget - a severe functionality compromise for me.

This stopped the random reboot problem - for a few days. Now it is back, a kernel-panic soft reboot to the rainbow-X every 5 minutes or so. This is with location services disabled and no third-party lockscreen widgets whatsoever.

I can't even make a phone call!

Nice alpha-level bug you have here, Google - one that causes extreme pain for your user-base, causing them to rip up their carefully built phone configurations, trying in vain to fix your bug through the process of elimination.

I am ready to unlock my bootloader, root the phone, and replace both your ROM and kernel with something that at least works for more than 5 minutes in a row!

Good luck killing the iPhone with this horrific piece of crap.

Galaxy Nexus (4.2.2)
Nexus 7

Not sure if this will work for everyone, not even sure if its going to help my nexus very long, but what I've found out is that if you check (Force GPU rendering) which is a developer option, thus can be found in the Developer Options at the bottom of settings, then you may experience sweet fluid goodness, and perhaps "knock on wood", a fix to all of this freezing and crashing. I sure have, I can feel the full power of my Nexus 7 now. I believe this option takes the strain of 2d drawing from the CPU and put some of it on the GPU.

Could increase or decrease battery life, heard both sides. Could cause older aps to function improperly. Someone mentioned Fruit Ninja, back in 2012 being affected, but its fine to me.

Now my Nexus is off the life support that is Fast Reboot... for now.

Be Sure to reboot afterwards...

So i've been with this problem for a while using stock 4.2.2 then downgrade to 4.1.2 and 4.0.4 but still the same problem random reboota , sometimes during sleep mode doesn't turn back on, and some lag and screen goes off and then on after 2 seconds

Reading a lot of forums I did the following

Using nexus toolkit
Installed stock 4.1.2 and return to stock boot loader and no root
Disable Google currents and Google+ and play store
Installed all my apps so far with .apk files and other repositories
In the WiFi settings disable the auto band selection and set it to 2.4ghz only

After all this I rarely got a reboot the only thing that keeps going on is the screen going off and then back on

Quite a few messages in this thread mention that "disabling" or "switching off" "Google Location Services" solved the problem. However, in the Android 4.2.2 on my Galaxy Nexus there are no "Google Location Services" anywhere I can see. So what are you talking about?

In Settings, Apps, there is no Google Location Service. There are various Google services, but not that one.

Settings, Location access is another possible spot, but there is not the slightest mention of any location services, only the permission to access the presumably already known current location.

Maps, Settings, Location settings is yet another place. It allows me to determine the kind of location reporting and to disable location reporting altogether. It also allows me to enable location sharing and location history, but again, not the slightest hint at any "Google Location Service".

Is my phone from a parallel world or are several people here unable to describe what exactly they did? Or do you know something that few others know about that mysterious service? Please be specific and precise.

I'm seriously considering throwing my phone to the garbage. I don't like iPhones, but google is really pushing me into it with this crappy piece of phone. Is so frustrating to have these rebooting issues, I've tried everything, from wipe to factory reset, back to stock, flash custom ROMS and KERNELS, turning location access off, uninstalling all apps/widgets that might interfere, and STILL I'M HAVING THESE MOTHER****GS REBOOTS! Now it's even worse, I can't even transfer files to my phone anymore because, guess what... IT REBOOTS! everytime I transfer ANY KIND of file.
The only thing that seems to work for a while is reformatting and start from scratch. I've done that like 3 times already. But still after a few weeks the issue reapears... i'm really mad about this, and noone seems to care. Not Google and not even Samsung.
The only thing that i found around the internet is this guy's findings https://plus.google.com/113601948978986762347/posts/2ALASEC1dG2
I read the log on my phone and matches to his... but now the thing is, what do i do with this information? I'm not a programmer o something like that.

Hi all,

no idea how this can be done with an unrooted device, but to get a basic idea what is failing you need last_kmsg. On my Galaxy Nexus it seems to be a TWL6030 chip issue, that causes watchdog triggers (self-reboot) a few seconds after starting a phone-call.

#234 luis.m.s...@gmail.com
Hi all.
I think I've finally found the cause of this problem...
This problem occurs because memory of the Nexus gets corrupted during some less careful NEXUS USB cable disconnections. Happens the same thing with USB sticks when you forget to select "safely disconnect USB drive".
To confirm this, if you do have reboot issues, you can try to copy to your Galaxy Nexus any file over 500MB and you will see that you will have a very slow transfer rate and that you will probably not be able even to complete the transfer (will always reboot at some point).

How to solve it... Hugh... It's not straight forward...
Restoring factory settings is just not enough, it may help you for a while but when you start to add more data and start getting it into the corrupted memory of the phone, you fall into the same problem, reboots for apparently no reason at all.
In my opinion these reboots happen when NEXUS tries to access corrupted IOIOIOIOOOOIIOIOI's on the memory, it just hangs there and device hardware protection kick's off and reboots the device.
I've restored factory settings with the new 4.3 OS, and transferring a file to Nexus over 500MB constantly rebooted the device, indicating that there was in fact some connection associated with memory reading/writing from and to NEXUS.

I've managed to completely solve the problem by flashing the ClokWorkMod Recovery v6.0.3.1 into the device, boot from it, and doing the following:

    wipe data/factory reset;
    wipe cache partition;
    mounts and storage -> format /data and /data/media (/sdcard);

Restarted the device, it installs the Android OS again, and file transfer becomes suddenly much more faster and with no reboots at all.

Resuming, be extremely careful when you unplug a USB NEXUS connected to a PC, in my opinion you should always use the "safely remove device" option on your PC.

3 weeks passed, and so far no reboots.
This one is finally solved! :)

As happens with USB drives, be careful when disconnecting your NEXUS from external USB devices (on Windows use "safely remove USB drive" whenever possible.

If you are having reboot issues:
1.	Restoring factory defaults will not solve your problem, you will have to completely format your device memory and after install the OS (any above 4.2 on your NEXUS will be just fine, 4.3 is lightning fast!!!! If you do not copy a new OS into it the phone will reinstall the one you have currently on a formatted an free of erros memory, will work just fine as well);
2.	Reboots happen when your phone starts using corrupted memory, to confirm that, and if your phone does have corrupted memory, just try to copy a huge file to it, it will always hang/reboot at the same point.

Hello Luis!

My device reboot problem is much worse now! I had 3 or 4 reboots today.

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#yakju

I flashed the 4.3 (JWR66V) b771c16592ab447c4fe91f0c5436ca11	ad817ccc3c675af9abdf525774174d28dcb811c5

My hardware info based on fastboot screen:

Product Name: tuna
Variant: maguro 16gb
HW Version:9
Baseband Version:I9250XXLJ1
Bootloader: PRIMEMD04

I filled up my device internal memory with 2 big MKV movie and its worked without errors. I think its not filesystem related problem. In Windows the stock android rom is installed as MTP device so there is no safty remove feature! Its not installed as mass storage like on Android 2.x.x!

I am experiencing this problem for the second time now and apparently it is reoccurring every 6 months after factory reset (The first time being six months after buying the phone, and the second would be yesterday, 6 months after doing a factory reset).
The first time this had happened I have installed no new app, all I did was view a file through a PDF viewer on the phone. Realizing through browsing existing threads that the problem occurs as a result of a new installation and/or a corrupted app of some sort, I decided to erase to most "Questionable" apps I had. It didn't help, the phone kept shutting down more and more frequently until I inevitably had to do a factory reset, I did so and the problem was solved... for another six months.
Yesterday I installed a new app, Finga Dragon if I remember correct, I decided to erase it, and only afterwards my Nexus Samsung suddenly froze and restarted, ever since then I get a restart 3 times or twice a hour, and it does so randomly - Trying to take a picture, replying on Whatsapp, opening chrome, it is as if something chews on the system's RAM and forces it to shut down. When I previously ran antivirus tests on the phone it yielded no result, and also today when I tried to look for an issue I find none at all, I uninstalled Mastercleaner after hearing reports of it causing a crash from badappreviews, however my phone keeps restarting for no apparent reason.
Now ever since I experienced this problem for the first time I avoided installing junk apps, and while I did not install too many apps and the ones I did install I eventually erased including cache, but apparently something else is causing this, as even as I tried safe mode I experienced a reboot.
If anyone has any idea, or a clue, I would love it, maybe even a freeze/reboot report tool for me to look over to review processes that might be causing the resets would be much appreciated. In any case, thanks in advance.

My Version is Jellybean 4.2.1, and again, my model is I9250 Galaxy Samsung.
