Reported by kungu...@gmail.com, May 12, 2009
Firmware version: 1.5
Phone: HTC Magic

When the phone language is set to Italian, if you "Reply" or "Reply all" to
an e-mail in the gmail application, to the subject is automatically added a
prefix "R:" instead of "Re:" and this behaviour cause a brake in the
conversation because of a change of subject.

Yes, this is a common issue in gmail's localized versions. A fix would be very
appreciated, Thanks.

it's really annoying
Comment 26 by enrico.speranza, Oct 08, 2009
Please correct the bug. Thanks
Comment 27 by robince, Oct 08, 2009
The problem is that localised reply/forward strings break threading in gmail - even
in the web version. I don't use andriod but have this problem when using gmail to
communicate with italian colleagues using outlook, which also localised R: and I:
instead of Re: and Fwd: This completely breaks the gmail threading. So I think a
better solution would be to have gmail recognise R: and I: (and other localised
variations) and thread accordingly, so all clients can correctly localise as they
like (rather than just fixing android to not use the localisations)

Comment 36 by webreaper, Oct 27, 2009
Simplest fix for me would just be to have the option to remove (or customise) the
'Re:' and 'Fwd:' prefixes. I'd like them removed altogether.
Comment 37 by Christian.Schulz.Nuernberg, Nov 11, 2009
please don't comment with "please fix it", better vote for this Issue by staring it.

I think it would be the best to implement a option in google mail to manipulate the
mail header by rules (defined by the user). So anyone can define by himself how his
mails should processed.
Comment 38 by puntodifuga, Nov 14, 2009
I agree with #27.
Gmail should recognize the international prefixes for replies, otherwise the
conversation will still break when receiving a reply from a non-english sender.
