how come you can't zoom in & out on gmail, at least on froyo you cant i dont know about gingerbread ? i know yahoo mail can 'coz i use it.
Mar 29, 2011
#1 therealc...@gmail.com
This is kind of ridiculous. I just set up a Google Apps trial so that my users could take advantage of the Android gmail client, and they're already complaining, so I'm switching them back.

How the heck does just about everything else -- including the ThinkFree Office client -- support pinch to zoom in email, but not the gmail client? This is really dumb.

Apr 11, 2011
#2 okgli...@gmail.com
Strongly support add pinch/zoom for Gmail. Priority should be high I think. I am not going to migrate from Outlook to Gmail until pinch/zoom happens.
Apr 14, 2011
#5 irli...@gmail.com
The pinch zoom does not work when reading email whether it is Gmail or Exchange in the Nexus S. As I do not always have my glasses handy pinch zoom is helpful and convenient.
Apr 15, 2011
#6 Peat...@gmail.com
really think p2z should be implemented as BASIC functionality of all email viewing apps!
Apr 18, 2011
#7 jer...@gmail.com
Same as others...seems odd not to have pinch/zoom in google email application. Makes it hard to use compared to same under Apple.
Apr 19, 2011
#8 c.klivinyi@gmail.com
I would also like to see pinch to zoom in future gmail releases! Please rate this as high-priority.
Apr 19, 2011
#9 Peat...@gmail.com
It should be high priority to fix this.
May 2, 2011
#10 farangd...@gmail.com
This feature worked on Froyo, so it seems it was intentionally left out of Gingerbread. Perhaps a conflict of interest here? Somebody getting kickback to promote interest in the Touchdown email client? What better way than to strip useful features from the built-in email client ? The only other thing I can think of is incompetence and that is a stretch given the overall excellence of the whole OS.

What they said ^
Sep 8, 2011
#13 a.j.ales...@gmail.com
Yup, this is crazy. Why is it that such basic functionality (pinch to zoom or even zoom buttins that appear on the screen) are continuosly left out of applications?

I think i'll be using the standard email client on my Droid X, as even THAT supports pinch to zoom.

Come on Google - Fix this already!!!
Oct 13, 2011
#14 matt.car...@gmail.com
This is default on every other mobile OS (iOS, BlackBerry and Win Pho) Google need to restore this functionality as it was available before they started updating the gmail client in Froyo.
Oct 17, 2011
#16 BenPrins...@gmail.com
Agreed. This is a necessary feature for phones. Please add
Nov 18, 2011
#17 aasar...@gmail.com
I am blown away that this basic feature is missing. Google, please fix this.
Nov 21, 2011
#18 steckm...@gmail.com
Its really hard to read some emails.
Nov 21, 2011
#19 Peat...@gmail.com
C'mon Google - do us a favour...SORT THIS ISSUE OUT!
Nov 26, 2011
#20 Faisal.B...@gmail.com
They fixed this on the iOS version btw in a week.
Dec 2, 2011
#21 ayq...@gmail.com
Priority Medium?!!! Oh come on! I can't believe you Google...... this is probably the worst problem plaguing Android. Please fix!

Dec 3, 2011
#22 mike.za...@googlemail.com
Switched from Samsung Galaxy 3 Android Froyo/GingerBread to Galaxy Nexus Android IceCreamSandwhich.
Larger Screen but stil no uoom in native GMail App!!

Dec 13, 2011
#23 alama...@gmail.com
What is the hold up on this? Can't be that difficult. I really miss my old BB Storm 2. You could zoom in and out using all features. So get off your duff all you Droid Engineers before we switch back to BB. WAKE UP!!!
Dec 20, 2011
#24 joseph.m...@the-morrows.com
I have to agree with everyone else this is embarrassing, iOS has this feature and yet android does not. In addition to the pinch-to-zoom, it should auto-resize an html message as well. Panning to the side to view an email is so 1990's!
Dec 21, 2011
#25 whitaker...@gmail.com
I am adding a comment in all subjects related to this issue. C'mon Google!
Dec 21, 2011
#26 erik.r...@gmail.com
Come on Google, do you really think people enjoy panning all around just to see e-mails? Make it so we can zoom in/out of the e-mail and also resize the e-mail so we can see the width of the e-mail.
Dec 21, 2011
#27 kevintad...@gmail.com
Everyone post a link to this page on all your social media sites. The more people that post hwre the faster it will be completed.

This feature would be very nice.
Dec 21, 2011
#29 vincent....@gmail.com
This would be very useful, especially since almost every email i get now is html
Dec 21, 2011
#30 scott.mc...@gmail.com
Please add this! It seems like it would be a very simple improvement.
Dec 21, 2011
#31 jfle...@gmail.com
i agree. not only can you not pinch to zoon, there is no zoom whatsoever! this should be a no brainer.
Dec 21, 2011
#32 antonin...@gmail.com
Indeed, I never understood why this wasn't possible
Dec 21, 2011
#33 frank.mc...@gmail.com
I am surprised to find that Gmail on Ice Cream Sandwich does not have any gestures either. In fact, I am pretty sure how the new version of Gmail is handling HTML email is worse than with previous versions.
Dec 21, 2011
#34 graigd...@gmail.com
I agree with need for pinch to zoom in Gmail. I for one have trouble reading my emails sometimes because the words are too small and the page itself ends up too big.
Dec 21, 2011
#35 neal.h...@gmail.com
This seems like it would be an easy addition to be ignored for so long...
Dec 21, 2011
#36 JoacimEc...@gmail.com
This has always bugged me. Frustrating too to scroll up/down and sideways to get a clear picture of what the mail consist off.

Pinch to zoom in GMail would be really nice soooooooooooo, pleaae?
Dec 21, 2011
#43 thegregb...@gmail.com
ICS definitely has gestures to go between messages. But no pinch to zoom is unacceptable, please increase priority on this, dearest friends at Google!
Dec 21, 2011
#44 bear.ow...@gmail.com
Yes, do it for reddit!
Dec 21, 2011
#45 KathrynP...@gmail.com
pinch to zoom!
Dec 21, 2011
#46 undocume...@gmail.com
The only thing that will increase priority is more stars. Comments do nothing besides spam everyone who starred it.
Dec 21, 2011
#47 sonicj...@gmail.com
Makes my emails almost unreadable without it, give me the pinch and zoom! Could you imagine if the internet browser didn't have this and you had to scroll from left again and down until you'd gotten through all the content? Well, imagine it and know it doesn't exist in the Gmail app.

This is a basic functionality that's missing and makes me dread checking my email on my phone.
Dec 21, 2011
#48 Peat...@gmail.com

#49 Nick.DiV...@gmail.com
Want this so much, please.
Dec 21, 2011
#50 alexwher...@gmail.com
As much as I want to yell at people for spamming this bug, its google's fault for designing the system this way. People clearly need a place to vent their frustrations. The default behavior of staring a bug should be re-imagined.
Dec 21, 2011
#51 Gold.n....@gmail.com
I'm with everyone else here from reddit, regardless of what has linked me to this page, I am still a loyal customer, who wishes for pinch to zoom or any type of zoom controls for the gmail app.
Dec 21, 2011
#52 leonwasi...@gmail.com
Love Gmail. Hate that I can't zoom on my Android. Old eyes, maybe! I need the feature.
Dec 21, 2011
#53 philly.s...@gmail.com
Guys, nobody cares if you came from Reddit. Shut up, it's not important. If you have nothing constructive to say, don't add meaningless comments, just star the issue. It's not the same as a social comment system, it's meant for constructive feedback to help the developers.

"549 people starred this issue and may be notified of changes."
That means 549 people have just gotten a useless email (me included) and will be getting another one because of this rebuttal. Stop confusing the bug tracking system for a social system.
Dec 21, 2011
#54 guilloti...@gmail.com
I love the sound of this and give my full support towards implementing it.
Dec 22, 2011
#55 nst...@gmail.com
Please add pinch zoom, small phones will love you.
Dec 23, 2011
#56 fcf....@gmail.com
I'm still using K9 email just because of this missing feature. Please, add it!!
Dec 26, 2011
#57 brad.car...@gmail.com
Big oversight. Glad I have 14 days to evaluate this phone, wonder what other core functionality is missing... Starting to miss my old iPhone!
Dec 26, 2011
#58 AndreYve...@gmail.com
How is this core functionality? It's interface polish. It would be very nice, but but it's in no way core.
Dec 26, 2011
#59 paul.ba...@gmail.com
If you sometimes have text unreadable, it IS core functionality.
Dec 26, 2011
#60 rafaelbg...@gmail.com
I didn't want to do this, because this is something I'd like to see, but I'm going to take away my star because of the inane chatter from random idiots. I like the forums sending me reminders about threads I starred, but you dumbasses are crowding my inbox with stupid shit.
Dec 26, 2011
#63 NoLMAOn...@gmail.com
IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT FOR THIS ISSUE CLICK ON THE STAR AT THE TOP INSTEAD OF LEAVING COMMENTS. POINTLESS COMMENTS DO NOT HELP. IT IS ANNOYING TO THE DEVELOPERS AND YOU ARE JUST SPAMMING THE EMAIL ACCOUNTS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPORTING THIS ISSUE.
Dec 28, 2011
#64 ralphhbe...@gmail.com
I've heard it works on iPhone. Shouldn't Android be the best, or at least equal?

Dec 28, 2011
#65 jayru...@gmail.com
I'm taking away my star. Bunch of idiots.
Dec 28, 2011
#66 ajw...@gmail.com
Stop complaining about people posting replies in this comment thread. Beyond assisting developers by providing insight to the nature of the issue, this forum also serves to express a demand by consolidating user requests into specific topics/issues. If you do not wish to receive email updates, use Gmail's extensive filters to have the comments from issue 15745 skip your inbox:

In the email thread (assuming you use Gmail), click More->Filter messages like these.

I hope this serves as the last comment not directly related to this issue. Please keep it that way.

Dec 28, 2011
#68 undocume...@gmail.com
This thread is for developer discussion only. Starring the issue is all you need to do to express your interest. Commenting "iPhone has this, why not Android?" does not add anything to the discussion. I have removed my support from this issue due to the retardation clogging up the comments. Stop fucking spamming everybody.
Dec 29, 2011

Who here is signing everyone up for gay porn? Another friend of mine who starred this issue got signed up for gay porn also.

does anybody know why P2Z has not been implemented yet?

Jan 26, 2012
#73 ingermar...@gmail.com
I reaaaally need this function
Jan 31, 2012
#74 johnhale...@gmail.com
It's not implemented because of a patent issue. Apple has patented the process of "Pinch-to-zoom" on an email and Google is unable to copy that without infringing the patent.

If you really want this feature then go talk to the patent office.
Jan 31, 2012
#75 johnwc...@gmail.com
That's interesting because the exchange email client on android does it just fine which makes me wonder...
Jan 31, 2012
#76 chachiga...@gmail.com
Apple owns the "limited patent" for pinch to zoom not a patent to pinch to zoom in email. Many vendors are fighting this with reasoning being you should not be able to patent a physical movement. Not to mention the browser does pinch to zoom fine, as well as maps, so Google just needs to implement it in Gmail.

Not sure if this link will work, but doing a quick search will show you.

Please stop leaving comments on this issue. Comments are for letting people know when you have personally fixed the issue or proving that the issue exists in more devices than one. The latter is already clear so there's no need to continue posting comments.

Posting comments only spams all of the people who have Starred this issue and is more likely to cause them to un-star, reducing the attention that this issue receives.

So please, please stop posting comments.

Apr 13, 2012
#92 alexwher...@gmail.com
History has shown us people need a place to vent. This is the most obvious
place to do that. If anything google needs to adapt their bug tracking
system to not notify people of every message by default, unless its been
marked as important or relevant. Or provide a link at the top of every bug
to a forum where people can circkle-jerk their frustration.

This type of behavior will never go away, and no amount of telling people
not to leave obnoxious messages is going to change that. Adapt your bug
tracking system or gtfo.

Do you fucking morons WANT people to unstar this issue and make it a lower priority? SHUT THE FUCK UP
Apr 13, 2012
#98 ian...@gmail.com
I had Chinese takeout. I am not a moron, lets make this an example of Google's broken bugs system. Maybe we'll get on Reddit if this gets absurd enough.
Apr 13, 2012
#99 dylanaro...@gmail.com
And now people are going to be ULTRA-ridiculous, just to get on Reddit...
Steak, Doctor Who, and Chinese food are all awesome though, I'm getting some sushi for dinskies.
Apr 13, 2012
#100 rchrd...@gmail.com
No, you are either a moron or someone who doesn't want this bug fixed. Congratulations, I'm unstarring it, just like many others above did because they're sick of this kind of bullshit.

The level of stupidity that it must take for someone to continually comment here as a way to "make an example of Google's broken bugs system" rather than submit a separate bug for that issue is utterly astounding.

To the people who are un-starring this issue, how many emails do you get per reply? I get just one and all I have to do is check the box and delete it. I could also:

1. Use a filter to automagically send it to the trash
2. Look around the "Profile > Settings" menu at the top.
3. Use some fucking common sense.

It's an amazing Saturday morning in New York today.

This is a real pain, iPhone handles reading of emails so much better than Google's own GMail App! Please allow us to see the entire contents of an HTML email.
May 27, 2012
#111 mattloia...@gmail.com
The gmail app has really improved in ICS, but still no zooming capability? Reading emails should be a simple task, but without zooming it becomes a real pain. Please fix this ASAP.
Jun 18, 2012

Why is the priority only medium? The Gmail app is useless without this feature. Come on Google, 4 versions and your Gmail app is still shit and missing basic features like this
Jun 21, 2012

Google, please leave eyecandy to apple and give us some real functionality please. Zoom in and out is a must have. I swear it was in the app at one point.

Come on Gmail, it would be greatly appreciated if you you would implement this feature, I switched to Android recently and love it, but this has been a thorn in my side from day one. You've seen the complaints here, I think its time to give your fan base what it wants.

The normal email app in ics support pinch too zoom, and gmail can be configured to be used there. Kind of stupid from google not to add this feature to their own app and thus allowing other web mail competitors to use the function and make gmail appear poorer. Perhaps a licensing issue?

Anyway, this is doable workaround that I use ...
