My network provider can send me informative sms for services i use (like how many MB left for my data plan) but it wants to send an EMPTY sms to a specific number. If the SMS is not empty it returns "Invalid command".

So i'm asking for a modification allowing sending empty sms messages.

I think that you can do this with a third party app, like go sms or handcent sms ;)

Go sms doesn't allow to send a blank sms..

Why should i use external application send an empty sms?
And why android should check if the sms is empty? It's pointless and annoying.

Space is not a NULL character. a blank SMS means a NULL value "EMPTY".

Space DOES count as a null character when using go sms. I have to send blank sms to mυ carrier for some services, and the only way to do this is by pressing space once ;)

yeah many service providers makes us to send blank sms to check different services. i think there should be a way to send a blank sms in the android os without having to use third party apps

If I want to buy a ticket for public transport, I have to send an empty text message to specific number. This is impossible without third party app. Really anoying to have a special app only for buying tickets :-/

Exactly the same problem as comment 11, as I'm also from Costa Rica. kölbi (ICE) carrier requires sending a blank SMS to get back how much money is left on my prepaid account.

Same issue here in UAE.
A good way to do it, would be to display a prompt on send: "Are you sure you want to send an empty SMS?" Yes/No, and that's it.

The Same here in egypt. Vodafone egypt requires me to send blank massage to activate some service, i sent enter and they refused it, i tried third party app also doesn't work, while works from nokia 3310!!

I've been told to send a blank message to 600 to receive my internet settings in mobinil egypt.
HOWEVER. My xperia p does not let me send blank messages, even after I put a space in. Apparently many mobiles do not allow that either.

Is there any way to work?

I tried this with Etisalat Egypt and the provider replied correctly
I added smile symbol :-) from the phone kyebad and the provider considered it a blank sms and replied correctly try it Thank you

It won't work. "Space" counts as a character, and the SMS must be
absolutely empty, or the operator will reject the SMS.
