Setting up the Android remote client
Updated Feb 15, 2010 by till.ess...@gmail.com

XBMC

In XBMC, go to Settings, Network. Under Servers, you'll need to enable the webserver. Note the port or in doubt set it to 8080. If you don't set a password, you can leave the username as it is. In this case you'll have clear the user/password option in the Andriod XBMC Remote app.

Switch to Event Server and make sure it is enabled, as well as the option Allow other computers to connect:

In case you don't know the IP address of XBMC, you can display it by pressing "S" with the skin PM3.HD and the choose System Info:

Android XBMC Remote

On start, click on the Menu button of your Android phone and choose Setting. There you enter the IP Address of the machine XBMC is running on, as well as the port you noted earlier. If you didn't set a password in XBMC settings, make sure you set the username and password values to an empty string.

Click on Reconnect, and the bottom of your screen should display which version of XBMC you're running. If that's the case, your Android XBMC Remote is set up!

does this work with 9.11 camelot? I'm not able to get it to work on my nexus one

Comment by mjal...@gmail.com, Feb 2, 2010

I just got this to work on my droid, and while some things in the menu have changed it's not too hard to get it all functioning, and so long as the program works on your Nexus One it should work just peachy.

The differences are that your settings in the Network pane will look more like this: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/PBZ5nT8jg46hGNmEVMhyxw?feat=directlink

I haven't tested to see what can be added or removed so far, and I haven't tried out proxy or static servers (to control XBMC from away from home), but for now this is the solution I have found (as of 10 minutes of finagling).

2 tips for folks a) see this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=498320&postcount=1005 b) make sure your router is set up to forward both TCP and UDP, if accessing over the internet.

First off, awesome app!! Is there any way to adjust the sensitivity of the direction buttons? I am using a Moto Droid to control an Xbox XBMC. Whenever I click one of the direction arrows, it jumps ahead about 4-5 lines on the menu. I have to go through the menu several times to get it to land where I need it to. Aside from that it is great. Thank you very much.

Just installed the Dharma beta release, and I can't get the remote to work.

Has the eventserver function been removed ?

Comment by project member Gabor.Fo...@gmail.com, Sep 6, 2010

Nope. Eventserver is still there.

Comment by meisk...@gmail.com, Sep 8, 2010

Works great with Dharma release 10.0 beta. Wish I had heard about this app earlier! Hopefully more people hear about it.

ive set it up so that "s" shutdown minimizes xmbc

"power on" doesnt work or start the program if its not already open, if it is, i never even see the power on screen , and even if i hit play , the minimized xmbc wont maximize, defeating the purpose of me starting it from the remote : /

Comment by paul.cru...@gmail.com, Oct 16, 2011

Did you try the phone's physical volume up\down buttons?

Comment by eit...@gmail.com, Nov 22, 2011

Works great!

Comment by minh.ngu...@wrightimc.com, Jan 2, 2012

I couldn't get this working for awhile 3 things you should check!

1. Make sure you're connected via WIFI! 2. Check firewall on router is port forwarding (I didn't need this, but good to check) 3. Check windows firewall! (this fixed it for me)

Comment by i621...@gmail.com, Feb 20, 2012

Cant use the phones physical number keys for volume if there arent any.

Am running my XBMC on a fedora box which should be similar to any other linux box. If using linux make sure you add both port tcp 8080 and udp 9777 to the computers firewall ports. At first I only had 8080 open and some buttons would not work after adding 9777 everything started working fine. I love this app. I will make sure to install it in my wife's phone. Great job Devs.
