The contact photo in the popup doesn't use the user's facebook photo, even though it shows in the system contact manager, why?Unfortunately the official Facebook Android application doesn't allow third part apps to access the photos it pulls down. As a workaround, use an app like SyncMyPix to synchronize your facebook contact photos to your gmail (and therefore main phone) contacts list. I like/don't like the new Quick Reply feature introduced in v1, can I turn it back on/off?You can revert back to the old Reply functionality very easily: Go into SMS Popup -> Additional Settings -> Button Configuration -> Button 3 Configuration -> Change this to "Reply" (instead of "Quick Reply"). This button will now start your system messaging app again. As of v1.0.2 there is a quick switch option for Quick Reply under Additional Options->Quick Reply. The notification icon doesn't seem to go away when I use Quick Reply, what's going on?This is likely because you have the system messaging app notifications still enabled or another apps notifications enabled for incoming messages. Unfortunately there is no way for SMS Popup to remove another apps notifications at the moment. Instead you will either have to:
The notification icon doesn't seem to go away when I delete a message from the popup or close the popup, what's going on?Same deal as here - you will need to disable system notifications and use SMS Popup's notifications in order for the notification icon to be cleared. When will you add integration with Google Voice?I would love to add better Google Voice integration, however at the moment (as at 2010-09-30) the Google Voice Android application offers only minimal system integration. To take advantage of this, turn GV SMS notifications ON and then in SMS Popup settings -> Additional Settings -> Button Configuration, set one of the buttons to "Reply (to phone number)". This will allow the Reply button to open the GV app to reply. Of course this is far from ideal as the number on the popup will not show as the real phone number. Help! Sound and vibration are not working when a message is received, what can I do?First of all, ensure you have notifications enabled in SMS Popup and that your phone volume is on :) People have been reporting that sound and vibration can sometimes stop randomly (but the LED keeps working). I'm still trying to work out what is causing this so stay tuned for a proper fix. You can verify this is your issue by running the "Test Notification" (sound/vibrate will not work there either). Customizing the color of the LED doesn't seem to work properly, what's up with that?The Android OS (and SDK) allows you to set the LED color to anything that you want - after which the hardware will do its best to show that color. If the color you chose doesn't show properly then it is likely a hardware limitation. Some newer Android phones may not even have an LED or may not have an LED that supports multiple colors. The one color which has me stumped is why choosing white will show a purple LED (at least on the G1). But either way, this is not a bug with SMS Popup but a result of the way the Android SDK works. Can you prevent the popup when I am inside the messaging app typing a message? It's distracting!As of v0.9.94 this should now be fixed. I found a (hacky) way to detect if the user was previously in the message application. Now the notification will show but the popup will not if you are actively in the messaging app. Can you make SMS Popup compatible with <insert 3rd party messaging app here>? (eg. ChompSMS or Handcent SMS)Yes, it should already work with any 3rd party messaging app that provides the correct intents such as Chomp or Handcent (although from my tests these apps only offer the "Reply" type Intent and not the "Inbox" or "Conversation List" type Intent). If this is not working for you, try clearing your app defaults for the built in messaging app:

why is there a problem with android app named My.message it is an app which translates my friends native non english SMS messages into my native language or 2nd language? when the message comes in its in Arabic, spanish, French, Tagalog and when I want to forward it to an English only friend the message will not reverse to English? If I use My.message app alone or with chomp SMS it reverts to English.I love your app but I dont know if its your app that is causing the problem or My.Message app? Question?..... how can I use this app with ringo lite(which allows me to have personalized ringtones for different people for calls & messages)? My dilema is that my personalized ringer will start to play but then it is overridden by the default ringer that I have set through this app. Can the two coexist harmoneously? Please help!!!!
For the custom vibrate, it would be great if we could tap the pattern in. Also, have you considered contact specific notifications?

If I get a text (let's say while sleeping), and do no action for a period of time, somehow the notification times out, and I have no idea I received a text. Only by opening my messaging app do I know if a text has been recived. No notification bar icon or anything. I do not want to enable reminders, because I am, after all, sleeping. Just not having the notification bar icon disappear would be ideal. I'm hardly complaining though, because this is the most useful app for Android. Thanks Dev! Chris
You have to set your notifications for it to show in the status bar in the app itself
I see you stopped notifications from appearing when someone is directly inside the messaging app. I liked it better before, because now if I'm in the messaging app and simply press the red end key to turn my screen off, I will have no clue if someone sends me a message until I unlock my phone again. Is my only option to exit the messaging app every single time I turn my screen off?
Well, the idea of no notification while in a messaging app is pure genious! However, how about taking of the LED as well but just playing the sound? Its somewhat annoying having to go to the notifications and choosing "clear all" Just my 2 cents to making this app the greatest! Nice work DEV :)
i just got the new "cupcake" update and on reboot the phone gave this error "process android.process.acore has stopped responding - {force close} or {wait}"
....after many attemps to uninstall programs one at a time and doing MANY complete restores back to factory settings i've found out it is this SMS Popup application that is causing the problem....i even tried to restore the phone, test it ( it worked fine ), then ONLY install this application and as soon as i rebooted the phone the error came back again. restored the phone again, the phone was perfect again and then again after install of just this app the error reapeared so it's definitely this app that's the culprit.....i love the app too but i cant use it....hopefully there is a fix soon.......
this app seems to be lagging on the 'pop up' for at least 10 seconds . i will hear a vibrate and the ringtone, and then it takes forever for the pop up window to show.. this has really only been since cupcake.. anyone else having this issue? if so, how did you fix it??
I seem to be having the same issue with lag. Ill be in another program and when I get a message it'll lag the pop up and lag the prgram I'm in.. sumtimes I even get a force close message. Please fix.
How does it work with the tts library?
Seems like cupcake is screwing up a lot of othher applications too. Love popup, seems to work fine on my G1
How about something similar for Google Talk?
I seem to be having the same lag problem with.the pop up window after I hear the vibrate. It's actually faster to just go to the status bar drop down at top of screen and open my incoming message there. I also still get pop ups while I'm typing a message, even if its from the same person I'm messaging. All that said I still love the application.

I found that handcent sms app will do the same thing so I tried to delete the app because I didn't need two apps when one will do. After I deleted it the app still continued to work. I downloaded it again and tried to disable it and it wouldn't stop. I decided to restore the phone completely after long consideration due to losing all my info when I do it. Even after doing a factory reset the app still continued to function. How can I get this to stop. I will never recommend this app to anyone especially since there are other apps that will do the same. When I first downloaded it I felt like it was a great app. I have worked in the wireless industry for ten years and have worked at t-mobile for the past 7. I emailed the developer twice and got the response about them getting so many emails they can't repsond which is not good customer service. If the dev could help me figure this out I may be willing to change my mind but they don't seem to care. I hope no one else has to experience this problem. Hi there, I've noticed that my phone no longer vibrates when I recive a text (or when I go onto test notification) my vibrate feature is turned on both sms pop up and in the sound and display notification (phone menu settings) please let me know how to fix asap. Hey, I downloaded the TTS service that's supposed to read your text to you and it had a list of compatable apps sms pop up being one of them...but when I try it out it doesn't read it at all, haha help?

How do I drop the keyboard after I'm done to send a message? When I type a message on the 3g it. Gets covered up by the keyboard and then I have to pick the add voice tag just to be able send the message. If anyone could help that would be helpful. If I didn't explain well let Mr know and I will try to do better Thanks

cario8834 - you can press the "back" button to drop the keyboard, however the next version will make sure the Send button is always visible so you won't need to.
mary/claud969 - this is a known issue and will be fixed in the next version.

Just curious if anyone has figured out why music for a pop up or notification plays in my ear while I'm making or on a call. How do I turn it off and stop it from happening? Love the application just don't like this feature....
When are all these problems going to be fixed??? I used to love this application, whose idea was it to fuck it up? Now I get 2 notification and the music won't turn off when I'm on a call...and yes I have checked all the settings and I still get 2 notifications...oh and when you click close it still stays on the notification bar...why is that?
cutieboicj - v1.0.1 fixes the issue with the notification playing while on a call.
claud969 - no need to swear now, most users don't get 2 notifications, this seems to be an issue with your phone - most likely there is another app showing a notification icon (which is also why "close" doesn't clear it). try uninstalling SMS Popup and sending yourself a message, if it still plays a sound and has a notification icon then you know there's another app involved here.
On my samsung moment with device 'turned off', when I get a new txt message I hear the sound and my hard buttons light up but the screen backlight doesn't turn come. But it appears the touch screen part comes on, because if I tap the dark screen then it comes on, but if I wait a minute then touch the screen it does not come on.
quick question - for the Droid, the app works fine except when I get the popup, I only see the contact's number, not their name. Their in my phone book but their name wont show up. any suggestions?
I am on the Motorola Droid and when the SMS popup comes up, only the phone number comes up, without any other contact info. If I use the built in Droid SMS, my contact info shows up just fine.
Another bump for Motorola Droid only phone number shows on popup, would really like name and photo if possible.
immor.aly: try turning off the option "dim popup scren" (under additional settings), apparently this can cause issues on the Samsung Moment.

Sprint Phone Error
ISSUE: Unwanted pop-up with every visual voice mail.
Sprint sends an "invisible" text message notifying the phone of a new visual voice mail. The message will not appear in the messages screen, but it will cause SMS Pop-up to display the message. The message comes from 901-6 and starts with \\android. I tried adding "Sprint" to my contacts with the mobile number 901-6 and disabling notifications for this contact, but that didn't work?

Confirmed on my Samsung Moment, but believe this happens any sprint phone running SMS popup.
Would be best if you could enter this on the "issues" tab here so we can track it ... these are special carrier SMS messages that are sent but do not get stored.
why does acore crushed when the smspop actived?

I set my personal contact notifications on my Droid. When I get a popup the default notification pick random people from my address book and replaces the custom contacts. This has happen several times.
I have go back in a reset my custom contacts.
On HTC droid eris it locks the phone everytime u send a message

First off I LOVE THIS APP! My only issue is that I have to set each contacts notification up TWICE it seems. Once when I add them initially then again in the sms popup notifications area. If you could make it to where is would automatically sync to the existing contacts and their assigned ringtones or if this is already possible explain to me how to do it since I seem to be too ignorant to figure it out. Thanks to the developer of this app for such a good service. 5 stars!
Say you're texting...."Jerry" Jerry sends you more then one message while you have his thread/dialog open, each time "Jerry" sends a message a new popup window will show, anyway to avoid this? Really annoying..
I have the mytouch running 1.6. I really like this app and i think you've done an excellent job with it. Many time i'll get a message, follow by another message. is there away while viewing the first message to view other messages that come through after the first message, without having to exit sms popup and go te messaging app to view subsequent messages. However, I downloaded the latest update (to version 1.0.7) and now it has trouble identified email contacts that send me email via <my number>@vtext.com. The previous version looked up those email addresses and used the custom notification, but 1.0.7 always uses the default notification for those contacts. (Other SMS messages from mobile phones work fine.)
So what changed in 1.0.7?

The quick reply feature is causing texts to resend when phone restarts, reboots, or turns off. Quite embarrassing, seems like it might be the texts sent using the quick reply feature!
I love this app the only things it's missing is customizing the conversation bubbles and having a signiture with out being on quick reply. If you can ad at least the signiture then this would be the app I recommend to everyone.

If i click close before the screen goes off again (after receiving the message) the notification comes back straight away. If i wait for the screen to go off then turn it on swipe down , enter unlock pattern and THEN click close it works.. HTC legend on 2.1 (everything standard and using SMS Unread count)
How do I turn off the vibrate notifications while on the phone?
Hi Adam, I like the app but I only want the POP up to appear when I'm driving. I'm lazy and can't be bothered to turn the app on and off so, is there any chance you might add a setting whereby the pop-up is only active when Bluetooth is connected? That would make it a 5 star app for me. Cheers
I had Handsent sms running and downloaded this app, but did not install. Now I am not receiving any test messages at all even after uninstalling and soft reset. Please assist.
I disabled system notifications but realised that the messages play a sound even when the phone is in vibrate only mode, is there anyway to make the app respect the phone's vibrate mode? What I wanted was for the phone to ring and vibrate when on normal mode, and vibrate only when on Vibrate mode.
It would be great to vary the alert by the content of the message as well as the sender the way watchflag (watchflag.com) does. Windows Phone 7 is not supporting this functionality and I don't think the iPhone does either.

Got a x10. The prg worked fine before the update to 2.1. Now there is a problem when I press reply, I come to where I write my answer but the phone number is not there any more so I have to insert it via the contact book. Is it solvable?
Just wanted to say that if this could turn the screen on without unlocking it and show a message preview in the notification bar, it would be awesome. Basically how the stock messenger operates.

Okay. I jinxed myself. Getting double notifications all of a sudden.
Pop-up notifications no longer show up over a locked screen on Gingerbread (Nexus S). With Froyo on my N1, I was able to view the contents of a message without having to unlock the screen. Can this be fixed, or is it a restriction in Gingerbread?
When I downloaded the app it said to go to any other message app you have and un check notifications. Well when I do it, it doesn't give me the option of notification so I un check everything. And this app works except my led light won't flash and I can't get it to work unless I check the notification on the message app that came with my phone.

My Droid X has suddenly started to freeze and reboot when I reply to a text. I deleted SMS popup and the problem seems to have stopped. THis just started a few weeks ago. Any ideas on this? I would really like to use the app, but can't if my phone keeps rebooting. THanks.
Can I customize a contact to show that I have a message in my notification bar from them. Vibrate or sound when I have a text from them? Really liking the app! I wanted a popup, first downloaded Handcent but apparently my LG Vortex didn't like it. So I found this app, for the most part it works just like it says. The only exception being that I cannot seem to get the individual custom sounds to work. It will show that I have changed the settings, but when I test it or an actual message from that person comes in it is the same sound as the "default" sound in the "main" app.

When I downloaded the app on my HTC Inspire, it said I could overlay on any wallpaper of my choice , but when I try this, it only gives me one option of wallpaper to choose from, or no wallpaper..... What am I doing wrong!??

For the last week, texts sent to me after ten pm have been arriving around 3:45 am on my LG Optimus. Other family members have Optimus but don't have SMS Popup and are not having this problem, so I wonder if this is an issue with the app.

I love this app but for one thing, every time I get one message for some reason I get three messages in my drop down notification bar?? when I tap on the remaining messages it takes me to a blank message screen?? Any idea what I can do to stop this happening?? Your help would be greatfully recieved
If I diable system notifications, the facebook chat notifications dont work :( ... so I turned on system notifications and turned off sms pop up notifications... now even after I reply to a message or close it, the system notification still remains :( and I have to go and clear it manually.
the popup isn't working, im on cyanogenmod 7. is there a way to fix it?
I keep getting a text message from a number 6250. It seems like a reminder message but all notification are turned off. Any ideas why I'm getting this message?
I would like to setup sms popup so that it turns on my screen when I receive a text, but does not display the popup. Is there any way to make this happen? I have tried unchecking "show a popup" and leaving "screen on for popup" checked, but this results in the phone vibrating/playing the notification sound without turning the screen on.
How come my screen doesn't light up anymore when the popup is disabled. Why?? Makes me sad :( I used to love this app until that started happening. DROID pro.
When the message is received, the message pops up as normal and you acknowldege the text, then deal with it e.g. delete, close or reply, the unread message counter on the default messaging app icon still displays the number of messages recieved, though they have been acknowledged already. A tweak you may want to consider in future updates.
Beware this turns off Samsungs Swype feature...... It wont work with this app installed... Beware.!
so i just recently got the nexus 4g for sprint andriod and downloaded the handcent application. however, when i send out a message greater then one page, all of my friends are getting the messages in all symbols and random letters and numbers. i already uninstalled the program and re downloaded it and that didnt work, any help?!
How do you change the link color on the popup? it is blue and hard to read.
I recently installed this on my Xperia Arc and been having that is similar to some others mentioned. I get two notifications, one for a text from a contact and the other is from an "Unknown" contact. By clicking the "Unknown" contact, it takes me to a new message. It doesn't affect the overall performance of the app, but it just bothers me seeing that second notification and having to manually clear it from the notification bar. I am not running any other texting applications other then default one on my phone.
I love this app, however, recently I've noticed that it would give me a notification saying that I have more messages than I really have. It would also leave this notification on the status bar, even with my system messaging notifications turned off. Any answers? Also, it would be cool to be able to look at all the unread messages on one popup when I get more than one message, instead of having to go to the inbox. Maybe let it allow you to swipe left or right to display other messages?
I'd also love to lock the orientation to portrait. I use Widgetlocker which has the option, but when I get an message, SMS popup overrides it.
I like this app but sometimes the messages that I send look perfect but when the receiver gets the message, it is not legible...just a bunch of symbols and letters. Anyone else have this issue? What did you do to solve it.
I also see an email on Aug 24 from someone else that has the same issue. This may be unique to the nexus 4g as i had the same problem. it occurred with handscent and i switched to go sms pro and still have the same problem. any help please??
I noticed several people having the same issue as me, but I don't see a solution. The LED doesn't light up at all.
Hi! Few comments and suggestions (my phone: SE Xperia mini 2.3.4). When I type the quick reply in Landscape mode - I do not see the number of the signs which I have left (I can see it ok in portrait mode) Would it be possible to add function: "remove the diacritics"? My vocabulary contains signs with diacritics so I basically cannot type without it. And when I type with it - I have only about 60 chars for the sms. "Restrict Popup" function works inversely: when it is checked (the popup windows should show only when the display is unlocked) - the popup win. shows only when the display (and phone) is locked. When it is unchecked the popup shows everytime.
The functionality - for me it would be best if I could set that when the display is locked - the popup windows shows up, lights the display, but doesn't unlock the display (I can accidentally touch it in my pocket etc.) - so I can quickly read the sms but to press something I have to unlock the display first - would it be possible to add this?
How can you use the SMS popup if you want to reply to one or more people? Like if someone texted me at 7:56 and another person texted me at 8:23 and i look at my phone at 9. and if i reply to the person that texted at 7:56 and shouldnt the popup be able to stay so i can reply to the 8:23 person?
BUT, instead i have to go to the system messaging app.
Is there anyway this can be fixed?
when i click on the notification bar of new message, it turns into typing new message with nobody but not replying to message sender. A BIG BUG!!!!
Seems like the message app notification on Galaxy Ace cannot be turned off? After going way down all the menu I uncheck notification, in sms popup I check "mark messages as read" and still after receiving an sms the message app shows one unread message, even if the popup was already answered by pressing close or delete... :-( Any help?

On the pop up, is it possible to add the ability to swipe to the next texts? Sometimes you can get more than one text and it'd be nice to swipe through them right on the pop up. Also a number indicator (like1/2 ,1/4 etc) on the pop up would be nice too. Hope this can be implemented. Thanks !
My Droid Razr will suddenly start playing the default ringtone (no call coming in) and will NOT STOP. I can't silence it with the side buttons (though if I turn off the sound in settings, it will stop only until I unmute it). After several attempts, I was finally able to get the phone to shut down. However, as soon as I turned it back on, the ringtone started in again. This is the 3rd time I've experienced this...eventually it goes back to working normally. HELP. I can't trust it!
