AltDrag gives you the ability to move and resize your windows in a new way. After you have started the program, you can simply hold down the Alt key and then click and drag any window. Besides just moving windows, you can resize, maximize and close them too. AltDrag simply allows you to do more with less mouse movements.

This behavior already exists in the window managers of Linux and other operating systems, and AltDrag was made with the mission to copy that behavior to the Windows platform. I believe I have succeeded with this and even added a lot of new functionality that makes your everyday computing a little easier.

Updates

2011-07-31

Released 1.0 beta. The biggest new feature is a configuration GUI. Finally, AltDrag no longer requires you to know what an ini file is to be able to configure it. There are some other new features, performance improvements and bug fixes too, see the changelog below for more information. This beta is only available as a 7z archive.
This release also features a new language; Chinese, translated by Jack Jin. The new configuration GUI is not yet available in Spanish or Galician since their translations have not been submitted yet. If you are looking to translate AltDrag, read this page.

Released 0.9. The new version adds a couple of very nice features. Among them are an option to mimic Aero Snap in Windows 7. This will work even if you run Windows XP or Vista. I've also added an option to automatically focus windows when you start dragging them. Another option I've added allows you to use the scroll wheel on windows that do not have keyboard focus. There are a few more new features and a few bug fixes, read all the details in the changelog below.

Changelog

1.0 beta - 2011-07-31:

  • Added configuration GUI.
  • Added ability to scroll through windows with the scrollwheel (like Alt+Tab!).
  • Added ability to blacklist by process name (see wiki).
  • Added new mouse action: Lower.
  • Added performance options MoveRate and ResizeRate. Increase if dragging or resizing is slow.
  • The scroll hook should no longer stop working when locking the screen or resuming the computer from sleep. A timer checks every 5 seconds if the scroll hook is still working, and re-enables it if it is not.
  • You can now press Escape to stop AltDrag. Useful if AltDrag gets in a weird state.
  • You can now press Ctrl to make AltDrag think the mouse cursor is still inside the current monitor. Should help people who have multiple monitors and want to snap at borders between monitors.
  • Removed info.txt. Use the website for help.
