Registry of collections and data sourcesThe collectory manages metadata that describe Australia's biodiversity collections and suppliers of biodiversity data. See http://collections.ala.org.au System documentation at http://code.google.com/p/ala-collectory/wiki/GettingStarted NEWSTuesday 20th March 2012 - Public users can now download the DwC archive for the records of some data resources. The link appears on the public page for those resources (datasets).
Tuesday 16th August 2011 - Public users can now access a list of all available data sets. The sets can be filtered and sorted by type, license, etc. Links are provided to the full metadata for each data set and to the full set of records where appropriate.
Thursday 23rd June 2011 - Statistics about the downloads of records and images are now shown in the public pages for data resources and collections.
- Charts showing the breakdown of occurrence records have been added to the public pages for institutions.
Thursday 10th March 2011 - The DwC fields dataGeneralizations and informationWithheld have been added to the representation of data resources. These fields can be populated via the collectory admin app. They appear on the public page that describes the resource and in the citations.csv file that accompanies data downloads. This allows us to make it known that some values have been generalised or withheld, and the reasons why. This is immediately relevant for declaring the reduced resolution of spatial coordinates in AVH records.
Tuesday 8th March 2011 - We have added the capability for contacts to elect to be notified when significant events occur to a resource they are responsible for. This will initially be implemented in hub portals. The first event supported will be the creation of annotations on a record associated with the resource, eg an annotation to a specimen record will trigger a notification to the curator of the collection.
Wednesday 16th February 2011 - Web services have been considerably revamped to comply with RESTful principles. A catalogue of available services is at http://collections.ala.org.au/ws. Services and the representations they return are now ready to support the needs of web-service based portals such as the proposed Hubs portals.
Thursday 27th January 2011 - The method of viewing records from the taxonomic chart has changed (prompted by a change in the Google API). Clicking either the pie slice or the legend will drill into the taxonomic group. At each level a link is displayed that will show the occurrence records for that group.
Thursday 20th January 2011 - New service released to serve metadata for a data resource in EML format suitable for Darwin Core Archives. Conforms to GBIF standards.
Monday 17th January 2011 - Collections and institutions can now be mapped to the data providers and resources that provide the electronic records for their specimens with much greater flexibility.
- Searching in the editing module now covers all collectory entities and searches names, descriptions, keywords and scientific names.
Wednesday 8th December 2010 - Software release - Home (map) page now has graphical buttons for filtering the collections displayed on the map and in the list.
Tuesday 7th December 2010 - Software release - Email adresses for collection contacts no longer show the address in the link text. The underlying address is obfuscated to make address scraping more difficult.
Friday 19th November 2010 - Software release - Lists of collections in map popups and on the list tab are now grouped by their institutions. This provides direct access to the institution page from the collections home page.
Tuesday 16th November 2010 - Software release - A simple algorithm examines the material types for a collection and chooses the noun (or nouns) to use in the public pages for the collection. The noun is used where we refer to the number of items in a collection, eg "The Western Australian Culture Collection has an estimated 700 cultures." Nouns used are:
| specimens | for collections with preserved material | | cultures | for collections of cultures | | samples | for collections with genetic material |
or some combination of these. For example many herbaria have "nnn specimens and cultures". Monday 15th November 2010 - Software release - Map pins are now positioned so that the tip of the pin icon points to the location of interest.
