Why is Actinet Free? What’s the catch?

No catch. Actinet was originally an in-house project, used at a large online skate company to manage their massive quantity of orders. They used lightweight laptops over wireless links to see orders as they arrived in Actinic. The packing department was impressed with the system, as it allowed them to extend the life of the software well past its original feature set. The management was pleased too. They saves thousands on upgrading to ‘Actinic Catalog Multi-User’ for so many workstations. Not just the software itself, but also the hardware to run it on. See, Actinet runs on very slow systems. In reality, you’re only viewing a web page when you view your orders in Actinet. Much cheaper hardware can be used. No more high end specs. After the initial release a version was created for the public and placed online to buy. At a few hundred pounds a pop, it was accessible only to those larger companies and not startups with more pressing order management issues. After several years, Actinet has paid for itself in development time, and helped hundreds of companies.
