Documentation for achtung 0.3.0

Initializing

There are two ways to initialize an achtung notification or set of notifications.

// Use an existing element
$('div.someSelector').achtung({/* .. options */});

// Or let achtung create an element for you
var foo = $.achtung({/* .. options */});

// Which is equivalent to:
var foo = $('<div />').achtung({/* .. options */});

Options

Option Default Description
timeout 10 (int) Number of seconds notification should stay on screen
disableClose false (bool) Disable close button
icon false (bool|string) Class name for icon to show to left of message (e.g., "ui-icon-check")
className "" (string) Additional CSS class name to add to notification element
animateClassSwitch false (bool) Whether to animate class changes when update is called (requires jQuery UI, unsupported on Safari/Webkit)
showEffects {opacity:toggle,height:toggle} (object) Options passed to $.animate() on display of notification
hideEffects {opacity:toggle,height:toggle} (object) Options passed to $.animate() on hiding of notification
showEffectsDuration 500 (int) Duration of showEffects (ms)
hideEffectsDuration 700 (int) Duration of hideEffects (ms)

Defaults are stored in $.achtung.defaults and can be changed to affect future notifications.

// Make sticky notifications the default
$.achtung.defaults.timeout = 0;

Methods

Methods are called similarly to widgets in the jQuery UI framework.

$(/*..selector*/).achtung('update', {/*..options*/});
$(/*..selector*/).achtung('close');

/* Or.. */

foo.achtung('update', {/*..options*/});
foo.achtung('close');

Method Parameters Description
close Close the notification (this is currently permanent)
update (object) options Update the notification with new options
changeIcon (string) newMessageClassName Change the notification's icon
changeMessage (string) newMessageText Change the notification's message text
changeClass (string) className Change the notification's CSS class
timeout (int) timeout Change the notification's timeout (or make sticky if timeout is 0)

Quick Example

// Create a new notification (5 second timeout)
$.achtung({message: 'Hello!', timeout:5});

// Create a new sticky notification, save as foo
foo = $.achtung({message: 'This will stay on-screen.', timeout: 0});

// Update with new message
foo.achtung('update', {message: 'Updated message!'});

// Close foo
foo.achtung('close');

// Remove all notifications
$('.achtung').achtung('close');
