accessballot

Open, Standards Compliant Ballot Generating Software

Accessballot

Accessballot is a [stand-alone] part of the Accessvote application (still under development); and it produces PDFs for ballot printing, touch screen ballots that can be implemented using tablet devices, and web based ballots. The paper ballots can optionally be OMR capable (ballots that can be scanned by a machine and which will convert pencil marks into cast votes).

Accessballot is designed to work stand-alone and can be accessed as a webservice for free. There is a simple API where you can send XML ballot information and get back a generated PDF containing a 100% compliant ballot, suitable for printing. In this way any election management software can connect to Accessballot and can produce OMR Capable ballots easily and for free.

There is also a web based interface made entirely from Javascript (requires no server side script except, optionally, to transfer externally stored XML files to the local file server, if required).

View the web based interface with some sample data here: http://accessballot.com/?ballot=sample_ballots/us_eac-sample.xml

Although the main purpose of the project is to allow NGOs to create OMR capable ballots, the software can be used to generate ballots that are capable of meeting multiple international governmental standards.

Currently Meets the following standards:

  • US English EAC Ballots
  • (more coming shortly, I will continue to add languages and standards to this list as I can)
