Registration FAQ

How much does it cost to attend the event?
Early Bird registration fees are $300 through May 1st, 2009. Attendees who register after May 1st will be charged $400. The academia (for students, professors, faculty & staff) registration fee is $50.
What does my registration include?
Registration to Google I/O includes: Two full days of sessions, product demos, breakfast, lunch, snacks, admission to Wednesday night's After Hours reception, as well as discounted room rates at several nearby hotels.
Are there any discounts available?
We're offering early bird registration rates through May 1, 2009. Be sure to register by this date to take advantage of the discounted registration price. In general, we've tried to set the conference fee at a reasonable level where the event is accessible to individuals. We are not offering any additional discounts.
What forms of payment are accepted for registration?
Registration payments may only be made via credit card through the online registration form. We accept the following: Google Checkout, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
How can I obtain a receipt for my registration?
You may view your receipt as well as email a receipt to yourself by accessing your registration. If you are a Google Account user, you may login with your Google Account to access your record. Otherwise, you will need your confirmation number and the password you created during registration. Can I send a colleague or friend in my place?
Yes, substitutions are permitted if you are unable to attend the event. Please submit your substitution request via email to googio2009@gmail.com. We ask that you include your full name, confirmation number, and replacement's name and email address. We will update your registration and send out a confirmation email to you and your replacement.
I have registered and can no longer attend the event. Is it possible to cancel my registration and obtain a refund?
Unfortunately registration fees are non-refundable. If you'd like to send a colleague or friend in your place, we do allow substitutions. Please email us your full name, confirmation number, replacement's full name and email address. We will update your registration and send out a confirmation email to you and your replacement.
Is there a one day pass?
We will not be offering single day passes to Google I/O.
Is there a student discount?
We do offer a discounted rate of $50 for those in the field of academia (students, professors, faculty & staff). We will require a school ID or other proof that you're qualified to receive this special rate when you check-in at the conference.
I've lost my password and/or confirmation number. How can I obtain this information?
If you have misplaced your password or confirmation please contact us via email at: googio2009@gmail.com and we will send the information to you.
I am not a US resident. Do I need a Visa to travel to San Francisco, CA for the conference?
It's best to check with your local government to confirm the required documents and arrangements needed for your travel to the US.
Are hotel accommodations included in the registration fee?
Hotel accommodations are not included in the registration fee. We do however have discounted rates contracted with several hotels near the Moscone West Convention Center. Please visit the hotel accommodations section for more details.
How do I book my hotel reservation?
Please contact the hotel of your choice directly and don't forget to reference "Google I/O" to receive the best available rate. Please visit the hotel accomodations section for further information.
What are the hours for on-site registration?
On-site registration will open the day before the event on Tuesday, May 26th, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Once the event begins on Wednesday, registration will be open from 7:00 am - 10:00 pm and on Thursday from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
When will I receive my name badge?
All badges and conference materials will be made available on-site at registration check-in.
Can I get into the event without my name badge?
Attendees will not be permitted to enter conference areas without a name badge. We ask that you please keep your badge with you at all times.

General Event FAQ

Who can attend the Google I/O Event?
We recommend that those whose work or interests involve AJAX & Javascript, Maps & Geo, Social applications, APIs & Tools, and Mobile attend Google I/O. Whether you're interested in OpenSocial, Android, Google Web Toolkit, Gears, Google Maps, or any number of other Google developer products, you'll benefit from attending Google I/O.
What are the event dates?
Wednesday, May 27th & Thursday, May 28th, 2009.
Where is the event taking place?
The two day Google I/O event will take place in San Francisco, CA at the Moscone West Convention Center.
Will the sessions for the upcoming Google I/O conference be webcast?
We will not be webcasting Google I/O live via the Internet. We will be recording select sessions and making them available on the event website and on YouTube after the event. Please check the website after June 1st to view the recorded sessions.
How many people are anticipated to be in attendance?
We anticipate 3,500 people to attend this year's event.
What time does the event start and end each day?
The hours of the event are as follows: Wednesday, May 27th 9:00 am - 10:00 pm. Thursday, May 28th 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
How is session scheduling being handled?
Sessions are open and no pre-scheduling is necessary. They are on a first-come, first-served basis. We will be updating the agenda on an ongoing basis so please continue to visit the Sessions page for for the latest updates. We will be offering a new agenda builder feature that will help you organize the sessions you would like to attend and make sure you best manage your two days. The agenda builder won't actually confirm or guarantee your spot in a session, but it will be a useful tool for you when reviewing the session content options in advance.
Are attendees able to bring guests?
Attendees are not permitted to bring guests to Google I/O. If you have someone traveling with you, they will need to register themselves and purchase an attendee pass.
Can I bring children to the event?
Due to the technical nature of this event children are not permitted to attend.
What is the nearest airport recommended for attendees to fly into?
SFO, the San Francisco International Airport is closest to the Moscone Convention Center and surrounding hotels.
How long does it take to get to/from the airport, and how much does it cost?
Travel time to/from SFO Airport typically takes about 25 - 30 minutes. A cab will run about $45 each way.
Will there be shuttle service to and from the airport and the hotels or convention center?
Shuttle service to and from the airport to hotels will not be provided by Google. Shuttles and cabs are easily accessible at the airport. There are also several services available to transport you between the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and downtown SF.

What is the attire for the event?
Come as you are.
Will I receive additional information regarding the event?
As the event gets closer, we'll post more information about the Google I/O speakers and their sessions online. Check back from time to time for the most updated information. In addition, we'll email all registered attendees with the latest information one week before Google I/O.
Are there any special evening events?
Once the sessions conclude on Wednesday, May 27th, we will be hosting an After Hours reception from 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm. Please join us for food, cocktails, networking and games.
Will you be having a Google I/O event in my area?
Currently, there are only plans for this one San Francisco Bay Area Google I/O to take place. However, there are many user led developer events that occur around the world. Check our events calendar to see if there are any in your area. In addition, later this year we will be holding a number of smaller Google Developer Days in locations outside the United States.
