Google Plugin for Eclipse

Updating the Plugin

Update Notifications

The Google Plugin for Eclipse periodically checks for updates to the plugin and bundled SDKs. When updates are available, the Google Updates Available... hyperlink will appear in the Eclipse Status Bar.

If you do not want to be notified of updates to the plugin, you can disable them by selecting the Google page from within the Eclipse preferences dialog (which can be accessed via Window > Preferences, or Eclipse > Preferences if you are on Mac OS X).

Installing the Update

Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.5 (Galileo)

Navigate to Help > Check for updates. In the dialog, check the checkboxes next to the plugin and any available Google SDKs. Click on the Next button.

Click on the Finish button. After the update process is complete, you'll be prompted to restart the Eclipse IDE. Click Yes. Once Eclipse restarts, the updates will be installed and active.

Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede)

Open the Software Updates and Add-ons dialog by navigating to Help > Software Updates.... In the dialog, click on the Installed Software button.

Multi-select the Google Plugin and Google SDK items by holding down the Control key (or the Command key, on the Mac) and clicking each item.

Click on the Update... button. A dialog should appear with information about the updates for the selected items.

Note: If Eclipse is taking a long time checking for updates, please see this FAQ entry.

Choose the updates that you'd like to install, and click Finish. A progress dialog will appear as the updates are downloaded, installed, and configured.

After the update process is complete, you'll be prompted to restart the Eclipse IDE. Click Yes. Once Eclipse restarts, the updates will be installed and active.

Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.3 (Europa)

The update process for the Google Plugin for Eclipse 3.3 is almost identical to the installation process. The only difference is that you can skip the steps relating to adding the update site, since you already did this as part of the installation process.

Using Updated SDKs

To take advantage of bug fixes and new features, you will want to set the updated SDKs as the default SDKs. To do this, go to Window > Preferences (or Eclipse > Preferences if you are on Mac OS X), expand the Google item, and ensure the latest version is checked for each SDK page.
