Case Study: Gydget

Who They Are

Founded in 2007, Gydget provides a social marketing platform that allows music groups, sports teams, non-profits and other organizations to reach their audiences where they congregate most: at social networking and fan-based Web sites. Its core product, gydget, is a stand-alone, viral web application (widget) that can be created by anyone, for free, without needing to know complex design or programming languages. Gydgets are used by many of the world's leading entertainers including Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, the Police, Joss Stone, the NHL and the Oakland Raiders.

YouTube and Gydget

Gydget customers get to stay connected with fans and increase their exposure across social networks. Fans who post the widget on their personal pages can now expose their friends to the band's music videos and other rich content, thereby introducing their favorite artists' music to new audiences.

What They Did

Gydget allows customers to create viral fan widgets with multiple content tabs such as news, events and music. It integrates the YouTube Chromeless Player into the standard widget to allow customers to create a video tab which streams content based on a YouTube video URL. The Chromeless Player allows for a deeper integration because the player controls can match the look and feel of whatever gydget it's in.

Impact

With the integration of the YouTube Chromeless Player, gydgets become more engaging. Fans spend more time in the gydget since they are able to watch videos and see their favorite bands in action.
