Quota & Usage

Each operation performed on an AdWords account, such as adding a keyword, consumes a certain number of API units. On a regular basis, each developer will be billed USD$0.25 (or local currency equivalent) per thousand units consumed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a unit-based system?
The AdWords API programmatically accepts millions of operations. To protect the system from receiving more operations than it can handle, and to ensure an equitable distribution of API system resources, it's necessary to employ this unit-based system. This helps ensure system stability and provides a better experience for all developers.
What about testing and development?
The sandbox provides a test environment where developers can build and test their applications. Operations executed in the sandbox do not consume API units, making it an economical way to test different operations.
Are free API units available to advertisers?
Advertisers who develop API applications solely to advertise their own businesses may be eligible for a limited allocation of free API units. Read more...

My Client Center (MCC) dual-linking

API developers and traditional third-party account managers, such as agencies, can now co-manage AdWords clients via their own MCCs. One MCC is granted access to the account via the user interface and API (for advertisers and full-service agencies), and the other is granted API-only access (for sub-contracted API developers and bid managers).
